Submission routines
How many here regularly send their stories/writings out to market?
If so, do you have a submission/market plan or routine that you follow?
If you don't send anything out, why not?

Re: Submission routines
I am sending my first piece out as a submission.

I was thinking that I would do something like the resume log I use during job searches.
It lists who I sent stuff to, when I sent it, and what I sent. I suppose there may be more to it than that.
Tomorrow I'm to the post office!

Re: Submission routines
I try to always have something in submission, and I try for a very quick turnaround (24 hours) on rejections. This can only happen with prior planning, though; knowing where you're sending it next and being prepared to get it back out the door.
A plan like this doesn't leave one much time for moping about if a story is rejected, which is one of its main benefits.
There's a printable submission tracking sheet at The Scriptorium, in the Toolbox section, if anyone wants to use it.

Re: Submission routines
I'll have a look at it, now that I'm starting to submit stories.

Re: Submission routines
I think I have a few stories that have fallen off the resubmission wagon. Maybe that's a good place for me to start trying to get my writing groove back--send some things out!

Does this mean that you reply to your rejections?

Re: Submission routines
No. I mean I try to send it out to the next market on my list within 24 hours of receiving a rejection.
Doesn't always happen, of course, but it's what I strive for.

Re: Submission routines
I tried to go back to a submission routine, but now I've been stopped by the Powers That Be: The German Post Office no longer sells IRCs through their post offices. Instead, I have to order them online, with them charging shipping and postage, too. The killer is that the current IRCs will become invalid at the end of the year, though.
I will have to ask a friend to send me some stamps. That seems almost medieval, to be honest.

Re: Submission routines
Firle, that's what I do. I have an aunt in the US who buys stamps for me when I need them. Honestly, the price of IRC's in Canada is so outrageous that even though I could just go into the PO and buy them, I stopped long ago.
I've found that many overseas publishers take email submissions now--for short stories, at least. Maybe not longer manuscripts.

Re: Submission routines
I assume you need U.S. stamps? I'm not sure what an IRC is.
I would be happy to ship stamps to any of you who need them.
