Well, don't put it off too long, because then you'll get the urge to start tinkering with it. I've found the best thing to do is try for a really quick turnaround time and then it's off your mind completely for a while instead of sitting around on your desk looking at you reproachfully.

It's just that I basically spent a whole day going through listings before finding that anthology market, and I'm a bit reluctant to do it again. Not many accept submission via email or even without a SASE, which is a little difficult for me to arrange.
(Not to mention that I have to write a blurb for a certain other story... urgh.)

You know, if you had a friend in, say, North America, if that's where most of the markets are, maybe she'd submit it somewhere for you... you'd only have to ask...

I just submitted it again, this time to an Australian magazine, Andromeda Spaceways. They prefer submissions by email, which is one reason. The other is that the story seems to fit their style.
Back to waiting.
(In other news, I submitted a German short to an anthology yesterday, and if all goes according to plan, I'll edit, format and print the Sequoia one tomorrow, so I can put it in the mail on Monday. I will try my luck and send it to the "Paradox" magazine.)

They take a story through two reading rounds, and put it on the slush pile for the editors if it passes those. If it doesn't get picked up within three months, they'll return it to me.
In effect, this only means my story has passed the first hurdle. Even so, I'm very happy!

Firle,
I'm sorry to hear this. It does seem your story has the potential to be marketable or it wouldn't have made it to the second round. It would have been nice if they could have said a little more about why they didn't accept it, but maybe that's asking too much. Put it aside for a while and concentrate on your other stories, like Sequoia, which I liked. You never know. Just keep hitting them in the face.
