A little more avatar help, please
I am completely and totally naive and ignorant of using this type of message board. I would love to have an avatar and found some great ones at avatarity.com . . . but once I have found it, what do I do with it? How do I get it to show up here?
And while I am asking questions . . what's up with those buttons up there under the posting icons? How do I use those to format my message?
Just color me clueless and confused!

Re: A little more avatar help, please
Okay, avatars first. Avatarity.com provides the free avatars, but they don't allow you to link to the picture on their pages. You have to find somewhere else on the web that will let you "store" your avatar. Photobucket (www.photobucket.com) seems to be a popular one, and it's free--well, you have to agree to get some ads to sign up. Signing up takes about five minutes (I just did it so I'd know). So after you sign up with Photobucket (they'll send an email to activate your account), here's what you do:
- go back to avatarity.com and save the avatar you like on your own computer (right-click the picture and choose "save image as" )
- then back to Photobucket, go into your account, and upload the avatar file that you just saved. Under "Add Pictures" there's a browse button so that you can find the file on your computer and select it.
- when the file is uploaded, it will appear on your Photobucket page, and below it is the URL where it can now be found on the web. Select this URL and copy it, then go into your Runboard account--the place to paste it in is right at the top of your miscellaneous settings.
Sounds complicated but it isn't--should take you about ten minutes total if you already know what avatar you'd like. If you still have trouble please don't hesitate to ask for more help!
The buttons below the post icons are for formatting the text in your message. For instance, if I click on the "B" it will make the next thing I type bold. I have to click on the "/B"
to turn the bold off. "I" is for italics, "U" is underlining. "COLOR" lets you put text in color, etc. Don't be afraid to play around with it! One thing I've noticed is that the code is always inserted at the end of the message, so if you're going back and inserting something you'll have to drag or copy the code where you want it. You'll get the hang of it in no time.
Oh, and post icons show up in the forum list next to the name of your topic; clickable smilies go in the body of your message.
Any other questions, just fire away!
Sherry

Re: A little more avatar help, please
Thanks, I did what you said and this is my test to see if it worked and going to play just a minute with the other things.
Ok, if I click this It should make everything after it bold and if I want it to be unbold now, I need to unclick it.
Ok, now for the color. I like to use color. Purple is my favorite color
Ok, so what does the scroll button do:
Thanks for the tips and hopefully this has worked as I think it should.

Looks like you've got it! Even I didn't know what the scroll button did!
Did you try the avatar thing? I don't see one for you yet.

Yes, I did. I didn't see it at first either but when I checked back after I received notification of your reply, it is there. It looks a little fuzzy. There were a bunch that I liked and I will probably add them all to my photobucket. Then I will have the option of changing it to suit my mood and season of life. I like change!

Great job, Graceful J!
Not only getting the Avatar to work, but I messed around with that COLOR thing for a while and never could get it to work, and finally just gave up on it!
Will it work now? Awesome! (blue's my color)
You inspired me, Graceful!
Pretty ironic I'm a 'computer person', isn't it???
Thanks!

Well, it is my life goal . . . to be an inspiration to others . . . so I have succeeded, once again! Oh, and regarding your comment from my introduction, that you like my avatar, thank you very much. I had so much fun at avatarity. I could waste a lot of time playing over there.
