Home At Last

is based upon a dream/vision I had a couple of years ago.

I am an old man now, with most of my old friends gone on before me, as well as two of my sons. I am ill--have been for two or three years now, with heart trouble, and will not be loathe to go.

In my day I was one of the best--not just a merchant officer, but an
officer of the White Star Line. As I soon will be, the Line is gone
now, but I remember all the same. I sailed on many ships, but the
most magnificent of all was TITANIC...once known as "the Ship of
dreams". When she went, she took from me not only the dream of one
day captaining a great ship, but, more importantly, she took Will
Murdoch, my best friend--the best friend a man could ever hope to
have.

Oh, now, what is this? I'm in water, but I can breathe and see. I am
flying down into the abyss, through thousands and thousands of feet
of ink-black water, a blackness such as I have never beheld before.
In that darkness, bioluminescent creatures are sending out flashes of
cold light--blue, green white--as my passing disturbs them for a moment. Down and down I
am flying, as if drawn by an instinct....which perhaps I am.

Suddenly I can see lights ahead in the stygian blackness, row upon
row....now, closer, I see deck lights illuminating four tall black
and buff funnels. As I draw closer, I hear the sound of engines
cutting through the eternal silence of the oceanic abyss, engines whose
sound is unmistakable, engines whose sound I have longed to hear for
so long.

I am making a sweeping turn to port, coming in over her bow, and
below me, the familiar long foc'sle, the mammoth centre anchor still
in its home at the point bow. As I glide over it, I see the huge
anchor chains marching aft in a double row towards their capstans.
I come in and touch down on A-Deck, marveling at how beautiful it all
is...I look down to see my old black shoes, and the legs of uniform
trousers...looking higher, I see a uniform jacket, each
gleaming like new, and just above the lapels, I see the snowy expanse
of a shirt which could only be Saville Row. As I walk through the
First Class Entrance, a steward opens the door, greeting me.

My word, so many people are here...I see Mr. Andrews, Mr. Astor...old Mr. and Mrs. Straus...the Allisons and their little girl..
Mr. Stead...good old Chief Engineer Bell and in a cluster, old EJ, Wilde (who actually looks glad to see me), and young Mr. Moody, all of them looking quite spiffed in their best. And a bit apart, oh my word! It is my dear friend William...looking as he did the day I first met him on MEDIC
all those years ago...with his old mustache, his uniform looking as if it had been tailored for him, the old watch fob sparkling in the light from the chandelier.

"My GOd, that is you, isn't it, Murdoch?" I see my reflection in a pane of glass and--what's this?--I am once again that young officer on Medic. Not a sign of old age anywhere in sight!

"See, Lights, I told you that you would see me again." he smiles in
that wonderful way of his, his brogue rolling over me as I remember
that long ago night on CELTIC when he told me not to grieve because I
would see him again.

I am HOME at last and now William is welcoming me, hugging me, slapping my back and telling me he's been waiting a very, very long time for me...we walk out onto the promenade and I know that I have
all enternity ahead of me.

Re: Home At Last

The title of your story, Lights, fits to a "T" where Will will be going home soon, that is if he is not already there...

When Jesus returns for the Rapture of His church, He will resurrect His believers first, and call us living believers next to join Him in the emoticon s. Yes, indeed, Will will be going home at last to be with the Lord.

The question is, your choice of course--which side of the spectrum do you want to be on; heaven or emoticon ?

Do you think you can comment on something without always having to bring religion into it? I'm sure Mr. Titanic has pointed out to you that religion can be a sensitive issue.

Fortunately, I have Father Byles, Edwin Lundstrom, Ada & Will Murdoch on my side. Lights, I dare say that even they would totally disagree with you 100%.

Will has always loved people for standing up for ones convictions and beliefs, no matter who's against them. Ada too, was that way as well. That's one of the many reasons why he fell in love with her.

I was merely stating a fact that most all of Titanic crew and passengers' souls and spirits are up in heaven. Have you not heard of that saying--'The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away.'?

Tammy, I have really tried to be nice about things because I believe that everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but not EVERY topic has to have religion jammed into it, nor do you have to play "defender of the faith", OK. Everybody here knows you are a fundamendalist Christian, OK...we get it BANGED INTO OUR HEADS all the time!

To the contrary, none of the people you have mentioned, including Will, went around slamming their religious views down everyone's throat, asked for or no.

I have no problems with people being Christian, Tammy. What I DO have a problem with is the constant preacking.

Boy! Have you got a major problem, Lights! How I wish that my friend, from another board would step in here, and share her two cents with you. She once was involved with the very same thing you're involved in (the reincarnation thing), and knows exactly where you're coming from. She also has/or had a friend who believes in the same thing as you. Her (my friend) eyes were finally opened up to the truth, and she now is a born again Christian.

If you would only converse with her, I have a feeling that she just might be able to help you with your problem. We also converse via email too. So, if I asked her if it would okay for me to share her email address with you via a PM message. Would you write her?

You do not get the point MA...I do not need you to preach to me...you seem to think that you can tell everyone what to believe and what not to believe. I deliberately do not mention reincarnation so as to not upset non believers....now you may not like it but reincarnation is a valid religious belief and as such I would appreciate you NOT lecturing to me.

I know as much about religion as do you, if not more (I am an Old Catholic bishop by the way) but I do not ram anything down people's throats.

You do NOT need to bring religion into every conversation.

The answer is no I would not...I believe as I believe and would like to do so without "Christian Fundamentalist" interference. Do I make myself clear?

Oh, you make yourself very clear, but in all due fairness...

And my friend, herself too, was once a Catholic, who once was a Medium who conversed with spirits. But, I'll let her tell you about that in her own words, and what caused her to look at things more differently. Which is why I would like to bring you two together. She also, outside the realm of "our" friendship (like Mr Titanic), can converse with you on a more diplomatic level. I promise you, Lights, that she won't preach to you. That's not her style. Infact, you just may start to liking her, just as I have.

Meanwhile, I already emailed her, stating my request. Which leads me to ask you about your new email address. May I please have it via my Inbox, so that I can pass it on to her? Thank you.

Re: Home At Last

Actually, in all do fairness, religion is only proper when a Titanic based discussion is held on the subject. Father Byles and so forth are not being discussed in this thread. However, as I had mentioned to Lights through our conversation, the reply in question is rather old, so it is difficult to place fault there. However, it does not permit further religious discussion; It is a sensitive issue. Therefore, religious insight from 'friends on other boards' and what sides of an afterlife spectrum one might wish to belong to are inappropriate. Enough discussion of the sort, and enough perspective 'ping pong' as I like to call it. We don't need to hear about born-again Christians on a Titanic based board.

This sort of subject is only proper through PM.
