posticon Sailing - Free Glossary

When searching for a possible book that might be titled Sailing for Dummies...I come across this interesting site:

Sailing

This site should be useful for determining the 'rules at sea'. I just know that you will find Sailing Regulations:>International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea most interesting to read...considering that Titanic's own situation plays into this. emoticon :boat:

I've oftened wondered what a fo'c'sle is.

Fo'c'sle - An abbreviation of forecastle. Refers to that portion of the cabin which is farthest forward.

I have also wanted to know the name of that horizontal beam is that a sail is hoisted/furled on. It is, I believe, a spar(?). I found out that a Jacob's Ladder is a rope ladder that is lowered over the side of a ship so that pilots/passengers can come aboard.

I presume that the Jacob's Ladder was lowered over the side of Carpathia, so that Titanic's survivng passengers could come aboard her. Right?

Thank you, Lights. I'm glad you like it...although I'm not quite sure what "da bomb" means. emoticon

It certainly is an excellent reference. I've used it several times, but forgot to comment on how useful it was (I can't wait for Thanksgiving break - to get organised!). "Da Bomb" means "The Bomb" which then means that something is really neat/interesting/cool. A very useful site Ma thank you from me as well! emoticon

Thank you, Mr Titanic, for explaining to me what Light's term--"Da Bomb" means. I'm glad that you both enjoy that site.

I'm looking forward to your return to TSOLD too.
