THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (2005 NBC-TV movie)
November 20th, Sunday, at 8 p.m./ET on NBC, The Poseidon Adventure, the 2005 movie will be aired on TV. Here is the 2005 symobsis:
Quote: Diaster at Sea
BEEN THERE, SWUM THAT IN SOGGY REMAKE
More than a capsized ocean liner is askew in this halfhearted attempt to remake a true classic: 1972's pinnacle of disaster cinema TPA. You remember, the one where a cruise ship is turned on its head by a monster wave and the well-heeled survivors climb to the top--er, bottom--of the sinking ship to get out. It's TITANIC on steroids.
Sadly, this listless 3-hour TV remake--a new feature version is expected next year--wastes way too much time on a terrorist-bombing subplot that feels like a amateur night on 24. An explosion, not Mother Nature, sends the S.S. Poseidon topsy-turvy, and it often seems as if the entire catastrophe was arranged so cheating husband Steve Guttenburg (who's all wet from the start) can see the light.
In a nod to the new century, one of the survivors is an Australian reality-show producer (Bryan Brown) modeled after Mark Burnette--his squeeze is a runner-up from an American Idol-type show (yes, she sings)--and an e-mail sent from an unside-down Internet lounge plays a pivotal plot point.
The movie's most fatal miscalculation is in taking us outside the ship to monitor the rescue efforts. If ever a disorientation to achieve its cliffhanger magic, it's Poseidon.
Though the performances are uniformly flat--there's not a gradiose scenery-chewer like the original's Shelley Winters in the bunch--you can still find fleeting moments of popcorn fun. But the morning after (to quote from the first film's Oscar-winning ditty), you'll regret having wasted your time. ~ By Matt Roush, TV Guide's Roush Review
Starring in the film are: Adam Baldwin, Rutger Hauer, Bryan Brown, Richard Clarke, Steve Guttenberg, and Dr. Robert Ballard. So...
MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND CHECK YOUR LOCAL TV GUIDE LISTINGS FOR THE CORRECT TIME OF AIR DATE!!!

Four more evenings to go, and still counting down...until the premiere of NBC-TV's 2005 version of The Poseidon Adventure. As to whether it's good or not, we will have to watch it ourselves...and only then we will have to decide for ourselves IF it's as good as the original. :heyy:

Hi MA...being a sucker for ship disaster movies, I plan to take this one in on Sunday. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the original...which ROCKED! Still love to watch it whenever it is on!

Me2. I can't wait to see if this remake stacks up to the original. Perhaps it will be as disappointing as that TITANIC 2-parter miniseries? We will have to wait 'n' see, won't we? :brow: :heyy: I agree! The original totally rocked, didn't it!?
BTW, which character in the original TPA was yours? Mine were both Shelley Winters & Eric Shea's characters. #1, because she braved it all, as well as putting her swimming skills across the English Channel experience, by saving Gene Hackman's life. And #2, that wee lad's innate knowledge of how to get around the ship; whether it be upright or upside down. He would make Thomas Andrews proud at the way his little mind soaks up his whereabouts about the ship, wouldn't he? ^*)
Didn't you, on the TDTSC's RPG, kinda like lose your way around ? Let that wee lad point you in the right direction. Can't you just hear him say to you, "Mr. Lightoller! I can help you! I know how to get you topside to the boat deck."
Three days left...

I personally got a bang out of Mrs. Rosen...all around, a plucky lass!
Got to see this and sorry I just don't like it as much as the original. Did get a laugh out of them using the author's name for the captain...and can't say I cried when she sank...

Ditto, Lights. This remake of TPA, just didn't cut it for me either...like the original did. The original, atleast, kept you on the edge of your seat till the end, munching popcorn instead of your fingernails, didn't it?
I too, didn't exactly shed any tears when this ship sank either. A Queen Mary standin, she certainly ain't.

Re: THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (2005 NBC-TV movie)
I saw "The Poseidon Adventure", Primarily providing I am fond of ships. My favorite character was surely Mrs. Rosen, she reminded me a lot of Molly Brown, with her will and determination to make a difference, and clearly did. It was an honest shame that she died. I don't beileve the producers were too concerned with drama, only adventure (note the name) the only slight emotional momment was when Mrs. Rosen died, which was a little cliché. Overall the movie was worth the time, it was interesting and it really did keep one's attention. I truely did enjoy it, yet I did not have the pleasure of seeing the original. There was room for improvement, but all in all the movie was rather amusing.

Re: THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (2005 NBC-TV movie)
The new Poseidon Adventure gets a "Three Funnels Down" Award from old Lightsy here. Just doesn't do it for me. Hope the film "Poseidon", due out sometime this year, does better.
One of the reasons the original ROCKED for me was because it was filmed on one of the last REAL ocean liners (IMO), a true Queen of the Ocean of her time and STILL a MAJOR babe, Queen Mary!
