The new Poseidon Adventure gets a "Three Funnels Down" Award from old Lightsy here. Just doesn't do it for me. Hope the film "Poseidon", due out sometime this year, does better.

One of the reasons the original ROCKED for me was because it was filmed on one of the last REAL ocean liners (IMO), a true Queen of the Ocean of her time and STILL a MAJOR babe, Queen Mary! emoticon emoticon emoticon

For sure!?! There is going to be still yet "another" Poseidon Adventure movie coming out later on this year!? emoticon Well, heavens to Betsy!!! I only hope that it won't be as disasterous as that above TV movie was. emoticon

I think the original "Poseidon Adventure" is going to be very hard to top. And if they use a modern ship, it's going to be even more difficult. After all, the premise in the original, is that Poseidon is on her last voyage before going to the wreckers Some take-off on a Celebrity ship just ISN'T gonna cut it (at least not for old Lights here)! But I will definitely go check it out to see--and keep my fingers crossed.

Yes, that was indeed, the premise of the original blockbuster film. Using an send-off modern-day cruise ship, won't cut it...and nor does an terrorist attack, sound believable either.

Remembering the December 26, 2004 underwater earthquake in the Indian Ocean that caused that tsunami to crash onto the Asian shores, would be more believable. The power was so enormous, that the quake literally knocked our globe off its axis. Now that's the premise they should play on in the upcoming Poseidon Adventure major remake motion picture.

Please do go check it out there. My inquiring mind is starving for some more details as to what kind of ship will be "the" star of the film. I pray that she won't be QM2. emoticon

Here are a couple of links to sites relating to "Poseidon" release date: 5-12-06).

Poseidon--2006

Posiedon--2006(2)

AwwwMAN!! From what I have read..."Poseidon Adventure" purists are not gonna like this one! The whole original dramatis personae have been tossed out the window...(aw, gee, I loved having Lanarcos to compare to Ismay!!!) and the whole thing sounds very little like the Paul Gallico novel...guess the best way to say this is "Caveat emptor!" :ahh:

A rogue wave in the North Alantic (exactly where Titanic collided with the iceberg), capsizes the SS Poseidon, this time around in TPA 2006!? Hmmm, I didn't know such waves existed in that part of the Atlantic, did you?

They may have strayed away from Paul Gallico's storyline, but they stayed away from a terrorists' bomb theory this time. While the TV movie stuck with the original characters in Paul's story, including the Shelby Family.

Irwin Allen left out the parents of "Susan" (Pamela Sue Martin) and "Robin Shelby" (Eric Shea) in his original version. But still, his is the best of the three. Right!? :heyy: emoticon emoticon

Oh yes, MA, rogue waves exist there...as in just about every ocean on earth. There is certainly enough ocean off the Grand Banks for one to form! Oh dear...where

I must agree...thank goodness they abandoned the terrorist bomb plot. It didn't work all that well in the TV version, that is for sure. Where Titanicwent down? Let's hope it doesn't clutter the landscape nearby! :ahh:

Poseidon, the new...but notso new 2006 motion picture, has been advertising itself on TV, as a soon-to-be seen film to open wide in Cinemas statewide.

I notice that Richard Dreyfuss, of JAWS fame, also stars in it as well. emoticon emoticon

emoticon That sounds good to me. You are, IMO, considered one of the best critics of emoticon type films...and I will be looking forward to know what you think.:heyy:

Yesterday, I drove by our local Cineplex, and looked for Poseidon...but saw nothing. Just maybe, should it come to our wee corner of our state, I might be able to see it too.
