Re: THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (2005 NBC-TV movie)
I see that it has a release date of May 12th nationwide, so I would think that it should be out somewhere in your general area, MA.
Here is a review of the film. There don't seem to be any of the characters in the original (Note: Mrs. Rosen MADE the movie, guys!) This may affect your going to see the movie so I place the link here for people's consideration:

You know what, Lightsy? Quite like us, and the way we feel...I totally agree with Greg's Review assessment about the soon-to-be released Poseidon. I have a feeling that it's going to totally bomb and sink at the box office. Titanic, watch out!!!
Shelley Winter's Mrs. Rosen, DID make the original 1972 Oscar Nominee a hit...as did her fellow cast members, like Gene Hackman and darling little Eric Shea.

Re: THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (2005 NBC-TV movie)
That is the sad thing about re-makes: seldom are they as good as the original they are trying to replace.
And yeah, I liked Gene hackman as the Rev. But then I've always been a fan of his. And Eric Shea was great as Robin...brought the right balance to the movio along with his sister. I was glad to see that, in the movie, he survived whereas in the Paul Gallico novel, he didn't.
Just a bit for film trivia buffs here. Apparently Paul Gallico got the idea for the novel when, whilst aboard QM, she canted so far over that a steward told him that if people had known how close she came to capsizing altogether, there would have been a real panic!

Oh really!?! I didn't know that that was Paul's idea for the novel was whilst he was aboard the QM. How fascinating!?! Which explains why they also actually used her for their title star oceanliner, the SS Poseidon. :heyy:

It certainly may have been a major factor in choosing her as the set for the movie...and few ships still around today have that air of a Lady towards the end of her years at sea like the Queen Mary

Re: THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (2005 NBC-TV movie)
And that is why the remakes won't and will never work...because their sorry lame of excuses for their Grand Dam of a Lady--Poseidon star liners just do not cut the mustard. They did not stick with QM, as they should have...plus, they did not use the original characters (except in the 2005 NBC-TV movie) in Paul's book. Right?
When it comes to James Cameron recreating TITANIC...he practically rebuilt the whole entire ship herself, for his star liner set. That's why I give him three up for his efforts and achievement. He knew how to get the story right.

True, if only the Olympic was still around though...
I did hear of the movie as well! I'm really interested in going out to see it. Any idea when it's going to be released? I've only seen the commercial once. We should all go out the same night and see it.

Re: THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (2005 NBC-TV movie)
In today's News-Herald's USA Weekend, May 5-7, 2006, under the Summer Movie Preview by Jamie Malanowski...here's a tidbit on Poseidon.
Poseidon (May 12) -- In seeking inspiration for some of the interiors for the luxury ship, set designers turned to... a basketball arena? The Poseidon's disco set is a carbon copy of a private party room at the Staples Center. Production filmed an early scene (one before the boat flips) at the arean, then duplicated it upside-down on a soundstage for later scenes.
Therefore--not once, to the best of my knowledge, did they actually use anykind of a ship's interior, throughout their filming...except probably for the bridge scenes. :nosad:
Mr Titanic, that would be a splendid idea you have there...for us all to go see Poseidon at the same time. :heyy:

Re: THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE (2005 NBC-TV movie)
MA, in reading that excerpt, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry...decided on laugh both because it is so PITIFUL to use a basketball arena and a disco for parts of a ship...for cryin out loud, all they had to do was go down to Long Beach or SF and find a cruise liner skulking about the docks! Oh and because laughing causes no headache whereas crying can. Sad, MA, truly sad.

Pathetic, indeed!:ahh: Atleast, dear olde Irwin Allen, who brought us the original TPA got the QM interiors right for his Oscar Nominated 1972 film - rightside/upside-downwise. Didn't he?
Ya' know? It wouldn't have cost them too much to get inspired by QM's kid sister namesake ship, QM2, to duplicate for their upside-down private party scenes. Would it?
But on the other hand, now that I think about it, it would bring bad publicity to Queen Mary 2...hence causing people to wimp-out by not wanting to book reservations to sail on her. So therefore--it would be a needlessly created no win situation, wouldn't it?
It only goes to show that Allen & Cameron are the better film-makers than this current team whom made the this sorry lame excuse for a Poseidon remake. Oy-ya-vey!!!
