More On the Titanic Museum, Branson
Now that I am settled in a bit and have time, here is a bit more on the museum in Branson, MO.
As you leave the area which deals with the building of the Titanic, you come upon a replica of a Third Class Staterroom. Not exactly Royal Caribbean, but quite opulent by the standards of the Edwardian Era. A sign explains that daily bathing was not considered healthy by many, so people took daily sponge baths, and only rarely (once a week if they were lucky enough to have a bath in their home)would they tub bathe, so when the the Olympic-class ships were being built, Harland and Wolff installed just two bathtubs in the Third Class--one for men and one for the ladies.
Once you have finished seeing the Third Class, you enter a reproduction of a First Class Corridor, complete down to the Axminster runners on the floor. Mirrors have been installed at both ends to five you a feeling of the corridors going on and on and on, as indeed it must have seemed to those in the First Class. Off the hall is a room dedicated to Cameron's film which shows some of the costumes worn by Kate Winslet and a nice selection of the hats created for the film.
Leaving this room, you come upon a replica of the First Class Grand Staircase, smaller than the original of course, but quite accurate. A Titanic afficionado could easily imagine being on ship and looking up towards the Boat Deck Landing. Once you ascend to the landing above, either by stair or by the lift provided, you come upon a replica of the bedroom of John Jacob Astor's suite. Again a small replica, but one which gives a good idea of the luxury in which theTitanic's First Class travelled.
Proceeding on, you come to a replica of the bridge and looking out ahead the "sky" with all of its "stars" gives you an idea of how strange it must have been to keep watch that night. Then, you come out on the forward boat deck, where it is cool, though nothing like it was on April 14, 1912.
After that, there is an area devoted to the sinking and aftermath. There are a series of deck sections tilted at angles the ship assumed as she began to sink and there is a replica cut in half of a Titanic lifeboat and sitting in it you can feel, if only to a small extent, what sitting in a lifeboat was like.
Just before leaving this area, there is a container with 28-degree water that you can stick your hand in to see how long you can handle it. I made it less than a minute while wolflady did the whole two minutes (the maximum amount allowed.
As you leave the area, you get to stand in front of a blue screen to get your picture taken, which later added to backgrounds of the grand staircase and the bridge.
Finally, there is a section dealing with the discovery and exploration of the wreck.

Re: More On the Titanic Museum, Branson
There is a model of the forward part of the ship as she looks today in a low light reminiscent of the sort of twilight in which you see the ship as Rose returns to the Titanic in the movie.
Finally, you come out on the Grand Staircase again where you descend to the gift shop and the exit.
The girft shop is a Titanic buff's dream: mugs, T-shirts, Edwardian style jewelry, books, DVDs, Edwardian style ladies' handpbags...well, the list goes on and on....
All in all, it was one of the best couple of hours I have spent during my years as a Titanic buff and well-worth the price of admission.

Re: More On the Titanic Museum, Branson
Lee informed me of how great this museum was indeed. I would love to see the section about the discovery and exploration of the wreck, personally. I loved that part of the exhibition down here in Orlando, where I met Lee for the first time. Also, speaking of her, we met up and Lunacon and I had dinner with Charlie Pellegrino again! Someone took a picture of the event but they have not replied to my email yet to send me the picture!

Re: More On the Titanic Museum, Branson
Hey, Mr Titanic, I would encourage every Titaniac who is able to visit the Museum. The owners have put a great deal of thought and love into it and, considering the available space, it is one of the best collections I have seen so far.
I understand that another Museum is opening soon in Tennessee and there are some plans to perhaps buy an older ship to have a floating museum in New York.
