3rd Officer Henry Osbourne Cater...
Henry Osbourne Cater, is the deck officer most often incorrectly identified as being Charles Herbert Lightoller, in that famous photograph of the nine Olympic Deck Officers seen wearing their winter uniforms.
Cater was born July 24, 1878, and held an ordinary Master's certificate (No. 036353). According to the Oceanic on January 2, 1910 as fourth officer after transferring from the Teutonic. He was serving as a chief officer when the register was compiled.
In the complete group of Olympic's posing deck officers (from left to right) are:
Standing: Purser Hugh McElroy, 3rd Officer Henry O. Cater, 2nd Officer Robert Hume, 4th Officer David W. Alexander, 6th Officer Harold Holehouse
Seated: 5th Officer Alphonse Martin Tulloch, Chief Officer Joseph Evans, Captain Edward John Smith, and 1st Officer William McMaster Murdoch
Inger Sheil & George Behe, solved this long-standing mystery, in their articles seen in THS' TITANIC Commutator, Volume 24 - No. 151 - 2000; "A Mystery is Solved" and "RMS Olympic's Officers".

Re: 3rd Officer Henry Osbourne Cater...
That is indeed correct! I have seen pictures of Lightoller, and the one of Cater often show no resemblance. Though google does pull up the photo (such as the one you have provided) and labels Cater as Lightoller. George Behe did a fine job in clearing up that mistake. Thank you for sharing that with us MA!

Re: 3rd Officer Henry Osbourne Cater...
You're most welcome, Mr. Titanic. I used 3rd Officer Henry O. Cater as a clue in our TSOLD games forum, under the Cafe Parisien>Ship and Person thread. But apparently no one even had a clue as to what the answer is. This prompted me to go ahead and give them the answer myself, and then open up an entirely new thread with his name as the subject title here.
True, thanks to Lights using his image for her avatar, we "know" what CH Lightoller looks like, and can compare him to Henry, up in the above group photo. Neither man shared the same rank aboard Olympic either, do they?

Yes indeed MA I did notice, and no the officers did not share the same rank did they? I don't understand why they were mixed up to begin with providing what they look like is a matter of opinion regardless. I wonder if the pictured Martin Tulloch is related to the current George.

I don't think so, atleast onboard Oly. The "current" George Tulloch? Erhm, who is he, and what ship did he serve on? If they are related, wonder if they're gt. grandfather and gt. grandson?
Perhaps you could produce a picture of the younger Tulloch?

Interesting, indeed! Wonder if there is somekind of an article somewhere, telling about his visit to Titanic? And if, he really could be a Martin Tulloch descendant, he went down due to his relative's serving under both Captain Smith & Will Murdoch?

Sure, why not!?!
Tomorrow morning at 9 am to 10:30 am (MST), I have a Bible Class (we're studying the Book of Revelation)to attend...and then grocery shopping to do. But I can look afterwards though.
