Dear Murdoch's Aid,
Please don't encourage Lightoller's conceit. It was hard enough keeping him modest as it was.

I honestly don't think it is a drawing, but an old old picture.
I think Lights can answer you better than I.

Re: 2nd Officer Charles Herbert Lightoller
Only guessing here, but would have been probably taken around 1897 or so, about the time Lightoller got his Master's ticket, I should think. (Lord help the Merchant Marine! They gave Lightoller a Master's ticket!!! lol)

Re: 2nd Officer Charles Herbert Lightoller
Over on ET, I also read that the WSL wasn't to kind to Lights either...which prompted Sylvia to persuade her husband to retire early from serving under them...
But then with his Sundowner; he & his son, Roger, heroically rescued 350 of his fellow countrymen from off of Dunkirk's shores...and with a show of awesome seamanship, dodged a hell storm of enemy fire.
Yessiree!!! Lightsy too, stands as a major hero as well. :sailor:

Re: 2nd Officer Charles Herbert Lightoller
Amazing Life Of the Titanic Hero!
Hi guys, in my local paper the Chorley Guardian there was an article of the life on Officer Lightoller.
It talks about his role on the Titanic and his later career in the world wars and his rescue missions.
His family introduced cotton spinning to Chorley and I'm sure our town hall clock was created by his grandfather.
There's also a huge picture of him, which is exactly the same as your avatar, Lights!
I'm well pleased to see this - I'm going to keep it with my other Flashback Chorley heros! lol

Hi, TIffany,
Really? How nice! Do you have a link to the article? I'm sure Lights would be happy that he is remembered fondly in his hometown.
And you are right, MA--Sylvia got Lights to retire because it was pretty clear that WSL would never give him his own ship (nor were the other officers ever given a command. Thank you for that bit of interesting information.
