<<I think that these two each had something the other admired and wished he could emulate.
That's what made them such good friends>>

I do believe that you are 100% correct, de Grancy! emoticon (including the many opportunities that Lightoller must have given Murdoch for laughter! emoticon

Re: Officer Murdoch's Death

My Will was always prone to laughter...plus he had a terrific sense of humor too. He may have taken his work seriously, but he did love to laugh.

I think that why he seemed serious most all the time, is because he wore the cloud of my father's-in-law (what do you call it?)...professionalism on his shoulders. He never wanted to disappoint Da.

Well, that, and I don't think acting funny or cracking up laughing would have been seen in a good light on the bridge. Someone was said to have remarked: "The bridge of a White Star Ship is quieter than a morgue."

Ahhh, but the officer's mess. That was where the plans were hatched.

Indded! One place you probably wouldn't run into the Captain! (besides, the bridge-lads needed someplace to come up with deviltry such as Fort Denison!).

Dearest Aid,

Telling would be against White Star Policy.
Must uphold the honor of the line, isn't that right Lights?
