Queen Mary & her namesake, Queen Mary 2

While watching NBC News, following the Winter Olympics coverage... I saw the following headline on the scroll rolling by...

Queen Mary, and her namesake, Queen Mary 2 meet in Long Beach Harbor (California), with a series of horn blasts. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

WOW!!! What a Kodak moment "that" must have been!?! :heyy: I only wish that I had been there to see that momentus occasion.

Re: QM 2 & Old QM...

I'll bet it was! QM is a Lady third in my heart behind Titanic andSundowner. Uh, better make that fourth because I have a thing for OceanicII.

For those who have never been aboard the QM, she really is a grand old Lady--a ship still built when ships were really ships!

It is also too bad, that there are not any pictures of this event, picturing the two ladies almost side-by-side. Or, otherwise--I would be too happy to post them here. emoticon emoticon

Thats a shame.. :ahh: That would have made an excellent shot, just like that of the picture with Olympic and Titanic side by side.

Re: QM 2 & Old QM...

Finally, here's a picture of the two Queens together in one picture at Long Beach...

I saw the above photo in a shop onboard Queen Mary only this last June 21st. I also a T-shirt in another shop also aboard her as well too.

Wow, Queen Mary 2, even from a distance looks Colossal. That's really impressive. But I like the appearance of the Queen Mary better, myself. She resembles the Edwardian ships a lot more than her sister, as would be expected. QM2 looks a bit top heavy, No? Also, isn't QM serving as a Hotel in Long Beach, even in that photo? If so, it would explain why the two ships weren't side-by-side after all.

Yup, Queen Mary is indeed serving as a hotel, Mr Titanic. I should know, because we spent the night onboard her in First Class cabins on Deck M, on her starboard side. It twas a very fitting prelude to our upcoming cruise onboard RC's Monarch of the Seas. We even had two portholes each to our cabins, plus really nice bathrooms, to boot.

Me too, I like Queen Mary, over her namesake as well. For she truly is the true "Queen of the Ocean" in everyway shape and form. But still, my heart does go out to Queen Mary 2 though...

Hugs,
MA
