i have aquestion

did the boat perposely hit the ice berg?
so people could see how strong it was if it didn't sink, so it could be official it was the ship that could never sink

cos i saw a program on this and it all seems to fit into place, and a part of the film suggests this to me as well

what are your views on this?

No, That may be a theory however I highly doubt it. Very much doubt it. The ship hit the Iceberg because the lookouts didn't have bonoculars - it was a moonless night - No waves to hit at the base of potential Icebergs - The Titanic was going at 20.5 knots (near full speed) so the berg was not spotted soon enough for the ship to turn. And when the ship did eventually turn her "flank" (Weakest part of the ship) hit the berg popping rivets and flooding 5 compartments (where Titanic could only float having only 4 full).

However, it is beleived (And Most likley is true) that the owner of the line that Titanic Belonged to (white Star's Bruce Ismay) had rushed the Titanic to get into New York early to make headlines, and avoid the press at the dock that might see New York Firefighters enter the ship and put out a fire in the Titanic's coal bunker.

So in a way she was rushed which lead to the disaster however it was not to harm the Titanic to prove anything.

Re: moneyballs2 here with his 1st class ticket

did u know titanic had a sister ship named olympus, and some people belive that they made out olympus was titanic crashed olympus and made lots of money from insurance from the titanic, the olympus had little insurance so they used titanic, this has been proved by a program on the tv, they had the plans for the olympus and matched it up with the titanic under the sea, thay also had the insurance claim which was for lots of money

what do you think of this, i am not sure if i belive it or not, i have done some research myself and it proves it, but i have also stuff against it, so i don't know what to belive :book: :book:

Well the Titanic's sister's name was the Olympic not the Olympus. However, I have heared that consipiracy theory which is indeed incorrect. The Olympic was built before the Titanic, and afterwards the Titanic. The Titanic was built with fixed defaults from Olympic such as an enclosed promendade to prevent the elements from acting on the passengers (water bow spray etc). The Olympic's Keel number was 400 when the Titanic was (clearly) 401. Now let me ask you this, why would a shipping line spend Millions to build a ship - an unsinkable ship required to gain edge in their competition with their Cunard rivals, and then crash it for Insurance? And Olympic was built first, so why would Titanic be their selection, and why place less insurance on Olympic? It doesn't add up. Besides, if they were to crash the ship, would they not have placed more lifeboats on her to save all those aboard. Would their deaths not cause a publicity outrage that would cost the White Star Line ( who existed for years before Olympic and Titanic as a shipping line not a "sink your own vessel line" ) loose more money that way?

When Robert Ballard decended to Titanic, artifcts from the ship read 401, which means it was indeed Titanic that sank, not the Olympic (as a note).

Regardless of how much the insurance was, a sinking ship is always a loss.

i suppose so, this is what i found out, i don't belive it though, there are loads of therioes out there, but people will never know the exact story, so i don't really like to belive any of this but i just get in too deep, i didn't know that about the olynpic being built first, and about the numbers either, so i suppose that is incorrect

It most likley is. It really is best you stick to theories that are debated and approved by Titanic societies much like the "Titanic Historical Society" or "RMS Titanic Inc". Much work of Don Lynch and Ken Marchall as well as Pellegrino and Ballard, they are the tops and will always seek to publish only what is true.
