posticon Hurricane Deck

The upper deck on a passenger liner is refered to as the Hurricane Deck. Is this another name for the boat deck, or higher decks such as the rasied roofs of the Lounge and Smoking room? Or is the name given to A deck (or deck one)? I was curious because apparently a ship can have several "upper deck (s)". So I'm just curious which one was the actual Hurricane deck, and if Titanic's deck was refered to by that name.

Re: Hurricane Deck

Hurricane deck!? :brow: I thought Titanic had only the forecastle deck, boat deck, and poop deck? Unless you count those raised decks the four funnels were attached to as hurricane decks. emoticon emoticon

Perhaps, Lights can better answer your question.

Re: Hurricane Deck

I just found the answer. The "Hurricane Deck" is another name for the "Boat Deck." It's not too hard to get an idea of how the name was started. :Hurri:

Re: Hurricane Deck

emoticon Thank you MA. I was just confused because I first heard the mention in the book "Lusitania an epic tragedy" and I hadn't heard that term applied to Titanic. Apparently the same deck has two names. The raised roofs must then be considered a part of the boat (or hurricane) deck, as just elevated areas for the compass and such. It's just odd that the name is used on Passenger vessels. The storm is probably worst on that deck.

I sure hope ships in 1912 wern't caught in those! Though I doubt they traveled up that far north back then.

emoticon I'm not rich? Oh NO! Well I start working for 12 hours a week at min. wage tomarrow. Class starts again tomarrow too!

I wondered where you came up with the "Hurricane Deck". Thank you for telling me/us that you learned and read about it in a book about the Lusitania. emoticon
