Since we all don't recall what Titanic passenger, Father Byles actually looks like in real life. Please allow me to introduce him to you...

from his Father Byles website.

And here is a close-up of Titanic's portside bridge, as she is dockside at White Star Lines' Southampton pier, the morning of April 10, 1912...emoticon

Re: Father Byles

In James Cameron's 1997 Academy Award Winning Film--TITANIC, here is Father Byles' most famous lines from the movie...

...and I saw new heavens and a new earth. The former heavens and the former earth had passed away and the sea was no longer. I also saw a new Jerusalem, the holy city coming down out of heaven from God, beautiful as a bride prepared to meet her husband. I heard a loud voice from the throne ring out this is God's dwelling among men. He shall dwell with them and they shall be His people and He shall be their God who is always with them. He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes. And there shall be no more death or mourning, crying out or pain, for the former world has passed away. (Revelation 21:1-4)

...as he clung to a capstan aft on the steadily tilting poop deck. emoticon

Thank you, Bess. I found this website on him over at Google. And when I did, I thought, now fans of James Cameron's TITANIC can finally meet the *real* Father Byles.

I don't get around to the passenger threads as much as I should...sorry.

That is indeed a lovely picture of Fr Byles. I understand that he was travelling to America to perform a wedding (I believe it was that of his younger brother, William). I have always had a great deal of respect for the good father...he was very brave to remain on board (I do remember reading an account that he was offcered a seat in a lifeboat but refused in order to tend to the spiritual needs of those still aboard). In an age where you hear so much about perverted priests, it is nice to look back and see a true shepherd...and know that there are still others like Fr Byles out there...we may just never know of them until disaster strikes.

Here is a biography of him from Encylopedia Titanica:

Fr Thomas Roussel Davids Byles
