posticon TITANIC - World's Largest Museum Attraction

  Everyone!

In today's snail mail, I got my latest THS "The TITANIC Commutator" Volume 30 - Number 173, 2006 issue.

On the front cover is a looming picture of Titanic's bow (minus the foreward anchor crane) with "Captain E.J. Smith" (Lowell Lytle) looking down on the people in the parking lot, foremast, buff-colored forefunnel, and white superstructure.

In Branson, MO, on 76 Country Boulevard and Gretna Road, is where she...I mean--the new Titanic Museum is located, from its former Orlando, Florida location. She opened April 7th, 2006, with Regis & Joy Philbin, the TV personality, in attendance. They're long-time friends of the Joslyns. Also on hand for the opening ceremonies, were Titanic survivor, Margaret Tobin Brown's two great grandchildren; Muffet Laurie Brown & Helen Benziger McKinney, to share in their gt. grandmother's memory.

On the sign below the museum's name "TITANIC--World's Largest Museum Attraction", announces that there are 400 Artifacts aboard.

To enter the ship, you have to walk through an iceberg located on her starboard side.

The museum owners, John & Mary (Kellogg) Joslyn, closed their former Titanic museum in Florida, and opened it in its permanent new Branson, MO, home.

Anyhoo, I ask you--isn't that a truly novelty idea to build their new museum in the shape of half of Titanic!? To borrow quotes from the Philbins--"This is a really great museum!", Regis told the large crowd. "The museum is awesome!" remarked Joy, "I have nearly seen a traveling Titanic display in Tampa, but they didn't nearly have the artifacts they have here."

Here where you can read more about it...

You don't say? I wonder if the interiors are similar, and that they constructed areas like the Dining Saloon in the same place as it would be located on the true Titanic. I would doubt it, the only one to have gone the extra mile was James Cameron, and it puzzles me why, after the release of the movie, didn't complete the Titanic he built to serve as a museum. I am positive it would have been a big hit! I think it's silly to walk through an iceberg in order to enter, I would prefer boarding through the vestibules like the true Titanic passengers did. The idea of cuilding a life size Titanic scale museum is remarkable though!

I wonder, is there a list available of the artifacts that are displayed?

If you clicked on the above link that I provided, you probably could find out there. As well as seeing an absolutely stunning picture of the Titanic all lit up...her portholes included. WOW!!!

I too, wish that John Joslyn had built the aft end of the ship as well. Which would have been most grand in scale of 882 1/2 feet long...hence providing more room for which to display more artifacts.

Re: TITANIC - World's Largest Museum Attraction

I wanted to type this in last night, but Runboard.com wouldn't let me in.

It may surprise you to know, Mr Titanic, that I had a premonition-type dream for which I saw Titanic looking like a beached whale...turned into a major tourist attraction. I came to that conclusion as I was studying that picture of her on page 18 of my issue of THS' TITANIC Commutator. I had had that dream soon after I saw the TITANIC Exhibit at the AZ Science Center in Phoenix. What do you make of that? Pretty weird, huh!? Wonder if it means that in an eerie sort of way, dreams really do come true? :heyy:

There is a place on TWLMA's site for which to send them a check/money order for their merchandise...such as a printable order form. All you have to do, is to click on that blue link, on the site.

Their offered caps, T-shirts, mugs, canvas tote bag, etc. are awesome!

I think many TITANIC buffs have dreamt of something like this. My Kudos to the people who put this together, at least to judge from the online tour that is offcered. A lot of work went into this and it is absolutely beautiful, a wonderful tribute to all who sailed on "the Ship of Dreams". Hopefully Wills and I will get up to see this in the next few months. If I do will report here. :sailor:

It does look wonderful. Not to mention the fact that the Grand Staircase is nearly accurate, which is rare. From the picture I can tell the Cherub should only be holding a bronze light, not a gold one, and there should be two chandeliers flanking the dome above the clock. The idea that the railings have railings is rather odd though... the actual oak was what people hung on to while using the staircase, I see no point for additional support. But it looks great. I am also very fond of the large model. The first class suite looks 100 percent accurate though, I would love to visit that!

I think the people there should get a medal for their efforts...well done! I can't wait to get out there to see it! emoticon

You are right...the Grand Staircase does look very accurate...it is really impressive what they have done.

Speaking of that Grand Staircase...

I was watching Andy Williams' Christmas Branson, Missouri promo on TV...when much to my surprise and delight, they showed the Grand Staircase all decorated up.

It's just like your own Christmas decorated Grand Staircase pictured you, Mr Titanic...showed us here. So with keeping of the above mentioned now decorated WLMA Grand Staircase, please give us an encore of your same picture? Thank you.
