FAQ about models
There were a few of you asking stuff how to piece certain things together, but I never got around to answering them because I didn't see the need to start blog posts detailing instructions.
However, if there are any questions, I'd be glad to answer them here So ask away!

Re: FAQ about models
With your mini DS Lite. How does the hinge work?
I'm assuming the "swivel" part forms a circular or maybe squarish tube around a toothpick... but I can't see how it keeps the top screen tight with the bottom.

Re: FAQ about models
yeah I get a quite a few questions about that one>>
The well after sticking the tooth pick in between the two squarish knobs at the sides, wrap the swivel around it.
You will notice that the swivel also has two little white parts which are really very tiny, make sure those are scored, fold them in and stick the top screen onto them.
This could get really tricky, since the glue might not hold since there's so little surface area. So make sure you are patient enough to hold the parts down for quite some time to make sure the glue really sets in

Re: FAQ about models
1) You need to get a few simple materials, shouldnt cost you more than 5 bucks. Most of it you will probably have in your place anyways.
- Paper cutter
- Scissors
- Metal ruler
- Art glue (please get good quality art glue not the lousy type that doesn't hold anything)
- Board for cutting stuff on (I use the back of exam pads)
- Toothpick (preferably round ones, not those flat ones)
- Black permanent marker (medium sized tip)
- Silver metallic marker
2) Pay a visit to a local print shop, if possible
- Where I stay, it's 2 hours drive across the breadth of the nation, so I won't take it for granted that all of you have access to a print shop.
- I'm not sure what they have over there in the States, or whereever you are from, but what I do is that I take it to these little shops that have laser printers from Xerox set up to cater to smaller scale professional requests
- You need to print the paper on either 250 gsm paper or 160 gsm paper, depending on what I left on the header of the page
- If you really cannot, you can print it on normal paper, but the box will not look or feel good
- I suggest printing at least 2 copies of each of the 3 pages of the file, because there are bound to be screw ups, and we wouldn't want having to rush back to the shop to get more model parts printed.
1) Scoring
- This is basically making a superficial cut on the paper using the paper cutter, so that the edges turn out crisp after you fold.
2) Applying glue
- This should be done sparingly, and this is where the tooth picks come in handy
- After applying glue, hold the pieces together firmly for some time. Patience matters.
- Remember to wipe off any glue that gets onto your hands! even the slightest bit. If not, it will stain your model and the glue turns black as dirt gets stuck onto it.
Putting the pieces together
1) The Box
- Pieces 7A, 7B and 7C
- Figure out the box is supposed to fold.. you have to get this yourself, I can't explain it.
- You will notice the walls of the box seem to have an extra extended part: These are meant to be folded onto the INSIDE of the box, so that even the inside of box is lined with black.
- Take care to place the tabs of 7A and 7C within the in folded walls, and NOT on the surfaces. In other words, the extra extended parts should enclose the tabs, not the other way round where u make the insides then paste the tabs.
- 7B is meant for the inside of 7A - there will be an empty white rectangle after making 7A, paste 7B over that.
- Take the permanent black marker, go over all white edges formed by the thickness of the paper. If not, your box will not look realistic.
2) Making the cradle
- Pieces 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D1, 2D2, 2E1, 2E2, 2F1, 2F2, 2F3, 2G1, 2G2
- Cut out 2B, score and fold the tabs first
- Cut out 2A, Paste it facing up on 2B: You will notice there are little holes on the real iPhone cradle --- These are replicated on 2A.
- You should have 2A + B now, with the tabs of 2B folded up around 2A
- Cut out 2C, score and fold the tabs
- Cut out 2D2, Paste it on the front curved portion of 2C to form a wall - this should stretch across the pointy tips of 2C. Cut off the excess.
- Now with 2C, 2A + B, hold the pieces together. Cut out 2D1, with the thin segment facing the front of the cradle, surround 2C, 2A + B. this forms the sides of the cradle. Cut off the excess after you've glued it down round the back.
- Cut out 2F1, 2F2, 2F3. Using the metallic silver marker, go over 2F1 and 2F3 entirely. Paste 2F3 onto 2F2 onto 2F1. Take the whole 2F1 + 2 + 3 thing and stick it down firmly onto the cradle, between the tiny printed holes.
- Cut out 2G1 and 2G2. Take care they are very small. Go over the edges with a black marker to get rid of the whites. Paste them down on the back of the cradle. It might be helpful to look at a real iPhone cradle. Just google for pics. Apple insider has good ones.
- Cut out 2E1 and 2E2. Paste them back to back. You might want to buy a light grey marker to line the edges, but... because this is only one step, I didn't ask you guys to buy it previously.
- Paste 2E1 + 2 onto the base of the cradle right where it belongs. The right way up mind you.
3) Making the iPhone
- Cut out and score 1A, 1B, 1C. Fold the tabs too.
- Paste 1C down wrapping 1A and 1B, take care to align the start of the dark grey portions.
- Cut out 1E1, 1E2, 1E3, 1E4, go over the edges with a black marker.
- Paste them down where they belong on 1C. Again, real pictures might be useful. They are the buttons of the iPhone.
4) Making the trays
- Tray for iPhone. Cut out 4A and 4B. Go over the edges of 4B with a black marker. If you have sand paper, you can sand down the rough edges after u cut out the inside rectangle of 4B. Score 4A. Stick 4A such that it forms a tray with 4B --- 4A makes a rectangular shaped depression. This holds the iPhone within the box.
- This tray is acutally not in the actual iPhone, but I couldn't make the plastic holder thingy, so i had to replicate what it looks like.
- Cut out 5A and 5B. Take great care with 5A because the insides are not easy to cut out. Sanding helps to get rid of rough edges as aforementioned. 5B fits as the depression for the top part of 5A: this will hold the earphones.
- Cut out 5C1 and 5C2. 5C2 fits as a depression for the central part of 5C1.
- Take 5C1 + 2 stick this onto the lower hole of 5A. This makes another "depression" thingy.
- Now the entire tray 5 is complete>> it holds the earphones, the charger, the cradle.

Re: FAQ about models
Damien, do they know of the instructions on the PDF file?
If they do, and are still facing problems, yes you certainly could make a video of the making process. That would be great.
But its tedious work.
