Think you could do Steve's job?
As I got 0% in the following test then I obviously couldn't.
The following tests for a tournament director were in March's PokerPlayer mag. I got both wrong (according to TD Matt Savage's answer) but completely disagree with his decisions. What would you do?
(1) It's in the middle of a tournament and Player A shows down A-x of clubs on a four-club board for the nut flush; his opponent, Player B, goes to fold his hand but before doing so opens it to show he is mucking a set of nines. His cards hit the table face down, but before the dealer touches them, the guy that was next to Player B says, 'OMG! was that nines? The board was paired.' Player B quickly recovers his hand and is awarded the pot with a full house. Player A calls for a ruling. What do you do?
(2) It's the final table of a tournament and the big stack at the table picks up a handful of chips without counting them out and throws them in the middle - his stack was dirty so there's a mix of colour and the amount is unclear, but it's obvious that it's quite a bit more than a min-raise. Before the dealer has a chance to count out the raise the player grabs another handful and throws them on top. Obviously the initial raise should play but we now have no way of knowing how much that was. What's the decision?
The reward for reading this far is getting to watch the video in this unrelated clip (with headphones if you're at work or near children) : http://www.xtranormal.com/watch?e=20090222182227485

Re: Think you could do Steve's job?
A. First hand has been mucked...
B. The original bet stands. Min Raise...if not 2 many in the pot...easy to decide what should be there.

Re: Think you could do Steve's job?
OK MY REPLY AS I HAVE JUST MANAGED TO GET BACK ON THIS RUNBOARD.
1. IF THIS HAPPENED AT TABLE FIVE, FOX PUB, TWICKENHAM, HIS HAND IS DEAD CAUSE I HAVE ALREADY SCOOPED IT UP AND IT IS IN WITH THE OTHER DEAD CARDS SO TOUGH TITTY TO WHO EVER HAD THEM.
2. AGAIN TABLE FIVE,FOX PUB, TWICKENHAM, NO WARNING FROM MYSELF HIS CHIPS ARE DEAD, AND THEY STAY IN THE POT, AND TELL HIM/HER STOP BEING A PRICK,
AND IF THE PLAYER/S ARE NOT HAPPY THERE'S ALWAYS RILEYS TO PLAY AT.

I'm not sure I want to answer these now
The obvious answer is are you up to drinking silly amounts of vodka & red bull

As soon as he shows his hand, his hand is live and the cards talk is my ruling. So, player B wins hand.

I sigh and say "For ****s sake" After taking a couple more gulps of alcohol, we begin recalculating what the pot was before his action.. He then is made to make the min raise and the hand proceeds. When the hand is over, the offending player is given a time penalty. (i'm even now considering whether the raise in fact should stand at all and whether he should be made to just flat call as we have no idea what his real bet was, even if it 'appeared' a lot more than the min raise.
No, i'll settle for first ruling, go outside, light up a cigarette and shout off obsceneties about the arsehole to anyone who wants to listen
