Good of you to thank Gary for not playing any of your games, and therefore not knowing if you run a good game Frank!!!

Re: TPT on Tour
OK... copy and paste job....
Hiya
Well it started in the supermarket...
I had been asking around to no avail. Then as I was browsing biscuits I heard a woman in the next aisle say "Hey, Poker Player" and then talk to a man. I ran around and accosted her.
Seems there is a monthly game at the Legion (with a Union Jack flying proudly outside) and also a weekly game at a bar in town. I've been to Legion and have missed the January game, but hope to join the February one. It is $20; they have a licence.
The weekly game in the bar does not have a licence, so no money can exchange hands! However he is basically running a ski season league and I missed the first two games - the final is mid March. It's free to play, weekly prizes are vouchers at the bar, but the big prize in March is a days cat skiing.
I was told to be there early (last night) as players from the first two weeks take precedent. I was early and took my place. Two tables of 8, two of 7. Very odd play. I mean the rules are the same, but my Table Captain head had to keep its' neck well and truly wound in - they splashed the pot, held their cards in their hands/under the table/on their laps, played out of turn quite a lot, raised by putting one big chip in without saying raise (so technically a call, right?) etc, etc.
Most frustrating was the option to buy two shots at the bar (he's running it to get more custom so from his point of view I get it, but really?) which "bought" you more chips. There were no rules on when you could do this, but fortunately it ended at the break. I did not need to do this, but took chips from those who did! Hooray.
We had one moment at my table, which ended in a girl throwing her chips in the middle and telling us all to "**** it". Then my Tabler Captain head was required as I sorted her stack and insisted we blinded her out. It seems she thought her two pair (K, J) beat the other guys two pair (A, 3)!
But the bit you want to know. I played tight (made a major fold; my straight to quad jacks - I nearly called thinking he had a set!). I made the final table. Then at just after midnight I took the last one out! Hooray. I won. I did not let Twickenham Poker down! I walked the icey roads home a happy girl!
I'm not sure if it will help next week - I think as soon as I raise everyone will fold, but I'll be back to find out!

Ali in Canada... Part II
Well I'm doing ok representing TP so far.
Though I do feel a little shafted. I was misinformed; I was told I'd missed two games of their "league" and I have in fact missed four (of the six to date)! And the final game (with the big prize) will be the top 16 point scorers, which I'm unlikely to make as I'll miss two more games when David gets out here!
Still, it's a weekly game for free, so I'm not too bothered.
As you know last week I won, and my prize was a voucher for a local clothing shop. It was only $25 which doesn't get me much so I thought I'd keep it and see if I won any more and then spend them at the end (you need to know this to understand the next bit).
So this week the rules remained as crazy as last - this buying two shots for chips drives me crazy, but I keep telling myself it's more chips to take from them! And I was right, there was definitely a "get the outsider/last weeks winner" atmosphere to start with. Anyway I got very low on chips (a couple of fishy river beats) so truly tightened up.
Then, there I was on the final table again! Then there were three of us, then two with me chip leader! And then he brought the prizes over. First Priize was vouchers for the (very average) restaurant upstairs, Second Prize was vouchers for the clothing shop I mentioned...
You guessed it. I threw the game! I know that sounds arrogant, and I tried to make it look as though I wasn't, but I did. You know how tight I play - my final move was to push all in with Ace high! The board was low, but she had so clearly hit a pair! I feel a little bad about this (and only getting points for second place) but now I have $50 dollars to spend!
Hope you're not too disappointed in me as I was brought up NEVER to let anyone win..

Re: Ali in Canada... Part III
As for me, well in one way I'm regressing and letting the TP Players down, in others I'm, well, read on...
The Weekly Voucher Game. First week I came first, second week I came second (see the pattern?), third week I came, yes you guessed it, third! To be honest I had no cards and was glad to make it that far (though I hate the bubble as much as the next person)!
I'm now in the top 16 (just), despite missing the first four games, so I may have a chance at playing for the big prize in March. But I miss next weeks game (David arrives) and then there are only two more so I need to make final table width='100%' to be in with a chance!
I am however starting to bug them! I was in a taxi getting dropped off for the game with some friends who were on their way home. When I got out of the car the taxi driver said to my friends "oh, that's the girl who keeps turning up and beating my buddies; they hate her". Charming, eh! Bothered? Na!
But the big poker news this week invloves the monthly game at the Legion. $20 buy in, run very much like Wednesday night. I still had to curb my inner table captain from screaming out loud however; splashing the pot seems to be normal procedure, as does raising with one chip, but the best bit - for me anyway - was we got down to one table six handed and one five handed, they stopped the five handed playing until the six handed had lost one - no blinds for me for about 20 minutes!
So you now know I made it to the final table (49 runners, paying top four). I had hardly any hands really, but those I did were sweet (QQ twice which saved my skin on both occasions) so I just played as tight as possible, watching them take out each other. I was so short stacked but made it to bubble with my Queens (all five of them called me - no respect I say as I'd not played a hand in hours!).
The big stacks took each other on and I was in the money!
Then the hand that saved me arrived (we all need a little luck). I was dealt QQ (again) in the big blind! Fold to my left, all in announced next, big pause, small blind also pushes all in. I'm thinking what do they have? I gambled as I had one on AK and one on a high pair (see Pete I am thinking) hoping that it was not Kings or Aces! So three all ins!
I was right - hooray. One AK, one pair of Jacks and my Queens. Nothing came out at all so my pair stood up! Then, as I was now massive chip leader it was a matter of time - though in the end it did not take long.
Can you all beleive this - I won! I won the game. I'm still amazed and chuffed! My prize was $441! As the Candians like to say - AWESOME!
And the people at the Legion were so lovely; welcoming and pleased for me. There were a few of the Weekly Voucher players there so I'm sure I'll be villified even more now!
So that's another week of poker in small town Canada.
