Where do you write and WHY do you write?
If you'd like to share, please tell us a little bit about yourself, why you write and who you write for.
PLEASE DO NOT DISCUSS OTHER PEOPLES POSTS HERE - YOU CAN CREATE NEW THREADS FOR THAT. LET THIS BE A SUMMARY OF WRITERS SO I CAN MAKE IT A STICKY REFERENCE.
POSTS WHICH ARE NOT ENTRIES BY YOU ABOUT YOU WILL BE DELETED.

I've always had a fairly skewed sense of humor, enjoyed reading the Onion and I first started submitting my own stuff when I discovered TheSpoof.com
I like The Spoof, but am looking for other places to write for because I'm somewhat unenamoured with it's policies and leadership.
I write there under the name of Jenna Rossity ( it was that or Jenna Tay Lea ) and have had alot of fun there. Before being Jenna, I was someone else but due to some differences of opinion a reinvention seemed in order to start with a fresh page.
In the real world I run an ecommerce business where I bring a community of developers together under the same roof and have turned that into a very profitable venture for me and them. Part of the enjoyment and success of that is the health of the community, which makes me want to help build a community of Satire Writers.
I really like writing. I am very vain and will often read my own stuff when I see it out there. I don't like writing very long pieces. Typically I create stuff of 200 - 250 words. What I'd REALLY like to find is a site which has "News in Pictures" where one can simply submit a picture, a headline and a single paragraph. That to me is the funniest stuff.

Um, hi. My name is Jennifer and I'm an alcoholic.
Err, wrong forum... let me try that again.

My screen name is half my real name and half my old screen name (darvi + jen) so now that I've gotten that out of the way...
I started writing when I was eleven, which was - assuming my Berrien Springs math hasn't failed me - 17 years ago. (Woah, damn I'm getting old)
I wrote stories about cats back then. Cats that walked and talked and got in trouble, and did pretty much what I did. When I got into high school I started writing short stories about kids, usually involving some sort of moral - real after school special stuff. Then when I got out of high school, my short stories turned to horror, particularly vampire stories. Even had a few published here and there. Sometime after that, probably around age 21-22 I started goofinfg around with humor. My first satire story - Dr. Laura Dead by Head. Oh, I was thrilled with it, so I kept writing more, and I'd pass around these little stories (often with a local theme) at work and my customers would pat me on the head and say good job. Eventually this collection of stories would end up online as my 'Urinal Era' - my own personal spoof. Then the cops came to my door, read me my rights, and told me to take it down because it humiliated the town I live in. So I took it down, and pursued publication elsewhere. I still consider myself primarily a short story/fiction/horror writer. (Much of my 'real' writing can be seen at http://darvi.tripod.com/ ) but I do enjoy writing satire for the hell of it.
and that's my writing life in a nutshell.

WHY DO YOU WRITE?
Most of you folks here weren't yet honorary Spoof folks then but some of you here tried to come up with answers. From that thread we all saw
"difficult question that".
I wrote because of the little Paypal check Dr J used to send me every ..

maybe I should just switch the subject to the Dallas Cowgirls who could be suiting up instead of the Cowboys on Monday nights this fall. Nobody will probably notice a difference except the Redskins who might just incur a few more "personal fouls" than usual tackling our Cowgirls a "bit more often than usual" but that's pro football and you have to live with the hand you're dealt in the NFL.

Oh god (in the most generic sense)!!! You mean I have to be serious?
I'd have to say that my story is probably the most uninteresting NON-story I could ever write.
Writing satire is my first writing venture, ever. With the exception of long, drawn-out political debates (bet you find that hard to believe, Jenn) in discussion groups, I don't really write. Well, I write proposals, and technical analyses, etc., for work, but that's not art. Is it?
See! That's it. No lesbian relationships. No pilgrimage to Woodstock. No sex with musical instruments at band camp.
I'm a conservative. What did you expect?
Oh wait! I DID go to jail a few months ago for the first time in my life. Does that count as interesting???

At my computer. (frowns)
Why?
I wrote a story once when I was young and the teacher wanted me to read it infront of the whole school. I had a microphone and everything. So I read and read and after half and hour the teachers said we were out of time. I said if anyone wanted to read the rest of the story, they could ask me. One kid asked.
