Re: Get paid to write satire
quote: Flexos Goatee wrote:
www.glossynews.com is coming up on it's third anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than by offering warm, soft cash for the best articles possible?
Glossy News shows 5,000 to 10,000 pages a day, steadily climbing over past months (and years). It's a fully automated site. Most importantly, it's updated constantly and gets its share of readership... well, a bit more than that, this is my living.
The offer is open to past writers as well as new, exclusive and non-exclusive stories, and there is no limit to how many pieces you may submit. We are currently limiting publication to three (3) articles a day, so realistically you'd be hard pressed to out-write our desire to print.
The pay is $1.00 per thousand page views for the most popular 30 pages of the month. You're good, you'll get the clicks, you'll be in the top 30. I don't pay for unpopuplar articles I'm not going to track a thousand stories to cut checks.
Write a killer article, it'll go far. Many of you know that already, and if you don't, ask the others on here. Show 100,000 pages, get a hundred bucks. Write two blockbusters in the month and you can see where it gets awfully exciting.
Full details are available by email, though I can post them if there is more than a few people here who want the whole run-down. This is a trial that is set to last three months, but will be reviewed for continuation. Now's the best time to try it out.
It looks as though one could possibly receive many thousand hits and no $, if they're not in the top thirty.....Correct me if I'm wrong. At any rate, sounds better than nothin'.
If you have time maybe give a typical worst, best, and average case scenario. -Thanks Mr. Goatee

Re: Get paid to write satire
Well hello there kids...
What about past stories on your site, Mr. Glossy? Are those eligible for pay as well? Or are new writers competing only against new stories?
Also, I assume it's okay for a writer to pimp their own stuff?

I picked up that slang from Mr. Glossy himself, Manny. Back in the day.
Anyway, I would encourage anyone who's on the fence, to consider his offer. Glossy News is a pretty reputable site that isn't afraid to push the envelope as far as content is concerned. It's certainly miles away from the spoof.

But but but .. would you give up posting everywhere else, aka "pants" .. post exclusively at Glossy or some place?
Remember, Mr Carey I think started at the spoof. The only place I can find him now is at
"pants".
I think pants is doing pretty darned good .. online ads, affilates, etc. Pants is the one to beat, not the spoof. Even Dale is at Pants.
Even YOU for cryin out .. I don't find you on any other sites. Apparently these days if we want to read good stuff we all have to go to
pants.
MR HELIUM -> I forgive and I forget. Now. Everybody, PLEASE come back. Come back home.
To the spoof. It's the right thing to do.
(like that oatmeal commercial sez).
MR HELIUM -> Everybody. Please come home.
I'll even unban everybody. Until they say something wrong. Utter an utterance that should not have been uttered. At the Spoof.

No, certainly not. I would not post anywhere where I'd be expected to be totally exclusive to that site. But I didn't think that was the situation with Glossy. He's not asking for his writers to write only for him, is he?
Altho I *almost* write exclusively for pants now I still want and have the freedom - even from Miranda - to spread my stuff around. That doesn't mean I necessarily do publish elsewhere (very rarely, actually) but if ever the opportunity should arise, a writer would be silly to let it pass. I think most editors realize this. It's just like submitting something via snail mail to hard copy print... the more places you send your stuff, the more of a chance someone's gonna bite.
I do, however, think a writer ought to target their material for the particular publication they're aiming at. I prefer to submit new work to Pants instead of old/redone work that's already been published elsewhere. Sometimes that isn't always possible. But having the same piece at two or three different sites is slightly tacky, if you ask me.

Kind words, Manny. Dale has the occassional funny story but Robert's been MIA lately. No one knows what's up with him.

If you looked a bit, you'd find quite a bit of me at Glossy. That's where I started. I have two articles at zinos, I think three at newshax, 5 at the spoof (still unremoved), and I think that's it.

I'm no expert, (hiding amongst the Bushes), but I followed Dr. Carrey's stuff closely, which topped the view-charts for quite a while at McSpoof, (in fact he's the only one I've noticed that churned out the shear volume of stories anywhere close to the likes of Produce), and he periodically took a walk-about (his disappearances), as described by Alex Deville in the hey-day of the writer based community there. I secretly think he might be an alter ID of AD....Shhhhhh
Btw, I'm still here, Produce, Jennifer, Bob, et al. I've just been Freakin' Busy as Hell.
