Nice, the only thing I'd say is have your poll appear in the same window, same goes with the results. At the moment the poll opens in a seperate page, and again after I've made a choice the results open after that.
And then you can make the poll pages a bit more interesting to look at (eg still have adverts, and links to other stories around).
On the banners on the left, I'd get rid of the redundant "=", and also combine the html link underneath into the title.
So you'll have five concise links:
Front Page
Weekly Poll
Hall Of Fame
Links
About Us
Note I said Front Page not Home Page. Home Page to me reads like a fan site or a personal site.
If you need to add more info, you could put a short sentence beneath the link describing a little what the link is about
Eg,
About Us
Discover the exciting history of the sports bear.
Weekly Poll
Take part in the issues that made this weeks sports news.
Etc. I just made those up on the spot. I think that really there's not much reason to have a descriptive like this, but you could see if it works or not.
I like the idea for sports satire, and it could certainly be a runner!
Nice layout etc.

All good Russy baby, the only beef I'd have with your great tips is your 'Home Page' definition.
'Home Page' goes right back to the beginnings of the Web and is still the word most webmasters use for the index page in the root of the site. Folks know that 'Home Page' means go to the site root. IMV it has no other meaning than that and certainly no 'kiddie' inference. Just my 4 cents worth..
