Keeping Kids Motivated
OK, I need some ideas. Right now, my class alone has grown to about 32 students. That's not counting what Bruce teaches on the other side at the same time.
Sometimes I have an assistant, sometimes I don't. I am trying to think of more ways to keep them interested and motivated. We play games in between the regular drills.
So besides, kicking, blocking etc. I try to think of interesting ways so that their forms are learned. We also play games like steal the black belt. We have animal races, animal fighting drills, etc. I have them for about 1 - 1.5 hours. I break in between because their attention span needs a brake, lol.
We have little competitions where they can win 1,2 3rd place. A TSD t-shirt, or some other perks (something as little as skipping push ups for the day or bowing in with the black belts).
I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas that I could use with them. Maybe a twist on some of the things I do.
They respond relatively well except for a handfull (about 4-5 of them).
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Keeping Kids Motivated
The first thing is the duration of the class 45 minutes is as long as any child and most Adult can keep there focuss.Think about it even in High School classes about 40 with a 5 minute travel to next class break.
Lets start with:
Sensei Says it's great way to teach listening skills.

Once the kids know the forms, you could have them get into teams & have a competition. You can either break the class in half or in several groups.

Re: Keeping Kids Motivated
Most kids love to be noticed. Pick the students who is doing exactly what you asked of them & put them in front of the class doing the drills. Then ask who will be next by displaying the same qualities that the previous student demonstrated.
