Just want to share my excitement with you all.
Hey everyone haven't posted in a while, hope you all are doing great. I just wanted to tell everyone about how my school is doing and a current success story of mine that i'm still happy about and hoping that it will push my school and my students to the next level.
We went to the first tournament of the year for our VA circuit this past saturday as a school and had an overwhelming amount of people who came to show their support as well as compete. Last November we had 5 students that tried their first tournament and they all enjoyed it and enjoyed watching me compete. This time we had 13 competitors and over 53 people there to support their school mates and watch a tournament for the first time. The week before the tournament I did well over 20 private lessons. I pushed all of my students that wanted to compete to at least take one for their first tournament. Those that wanted to do better than just try did well over 4 the month or two before the tournament.
The monday after the tournament I had over 5 go ahead and set up weekly lessons for competition and have another five doing the same starting in february. Soon when I have a lot more doing privates i'll have to make them into dual lessons to help with time. This is really a success story for me considering that I have 40 students and had almost half of them compete or want toc ompete in the future.
The key for me was that they all had support and were together as a team. They also had my mom and my brother watching them and making sure they were at the right place. Tournaments can be a big help for your school and can be a negative but you have to make sure you or someone else is there to support your school and your students when something goes wrong. I have had thre or 4 students who i never thought would want to compete ask me about private lessons so they could be good enough to compete one day. I'm just excited and looking forward to being able to see my school grow as a team in competition and in the dojo as well as at home and in their schools. Just thought I'd share. sorry for the length
