I Married Joan--query
I remember years ago seeing an episode of the American tv series I Married Joan in which a lookalike convict changes clothes and places with Joan in prison. I do not remember the extent of the clothes changing, probably not explicit, although sometimes I am surprised at how women in slips on syndicated U.S. television got passed the censors. I also remember that a few years later the same writers reworked the story for a tv series with Glynis Johns caleld Glynis, and in that one I remember a knock out.
I Married Joan is on videotape/DVD, and this episode was in its third and last season, but the numbering system for the DVD--Vol. 3 for example does not mean season 3--is very confusing. I haven't seen this episode online on youtube or hulu.
has anyone seen it, have it?

Re: I Married Joan--query
Hi! I don't remember "I Married Joan," but I vaguely remember the "Glynis" episode from the 1960s - in fact, it was the first clothes-swapping episode I think I ever saw on TV, although I don't remember the details of that episode very clearly after 40 years (and I was very young). It was a prison escape, if I remember, but I don't really remember the knock out or the clothes swap itself. Wow, the post about "Glynis" sure brought back memories, though! Anyone remember the episode and details? Happy Holidays, all --Jana

Re: I Married Joan--query
In the I Married Joan, Joan is trying to help her husband the judge root out prison corruption by pretending to be a prisoner. In Glynis, Glynis is a novelist who is researching prison life and is dressed as a prisoner. In Glynis, the lookalike has black hair compared to Glynis's blonde. Another prisoner gets behind Glynis and knocks her out. The lookalike stands over the unconscious Glynis while pouring black hair dye into the basin and says, Quick, help me get her out of her uniform and gets some black dye for her hair. The lookalike leaves the prison dressed in Glynis's civilian clothes and with blonde hair.
As I said, I think I Married Joan was similar, I just don't remember the knockout.
I recall readings older postings about a similiar episode of Mr. Belvedere called "Bad Marsha."

Yes there is the "Bad Marsha" episode of Mr. Belvedere. Have not scene it but I believe Marsha is a lawyer and her client turns out to be a look a like and some how knocks Marsha , switches clothes then leaves the prison as Marsha. It sounds like Hollywood recycling the same story over and over. Unfotunately I haven't ever found a clip or vidcaps of this show either.

Re: I Married Joan--query
I want to apologize to the board for misremembering the "Ladies Prison" episode of "I Married Joan" (1955). Someone has posted it on youtube and I see that my memory may have been colored by later episodes of Glynis ("Two-Way Stretch," 1963) and Mr. Belverdere ("Bad Marsha) in which Glynis and Marsha encounter their doubles in prison; the doubles knock them out, change clothes with them and are released by guards, thinking they are the real Glynis and Marsha, respectively.
In "Ladies Prison," the clothes switch turns out to be accidental. Like Glynis, Joan is pretending to be a convict, doing research into prison life. She and a prisoner Midge get their uniforms dirty and strip to their slips. When they get dressed, they put on the wrong uniforms; the guard sees the prison number Midge is wearing, thinks she is Joan, and says she can leave whenever she wants to, which she does.
It's probably poor memory due to age or I may have been projecting the Glynis and Marsha situations onto Joan. Sorry.
Hopefully someone will find the Glynis and Marsha episodes and post them.
For what it's worth, here's the link. The stripping and accidental clothes switch takes place 1:30 in.
