Communications

Since Daniel has joined and posted once again, and as I have mentioned in other posts on here Daniel was our Chief of Communications, and maybe still is story wise. I wanted to say abit about communications here.

As most of you know that watch the shows, short of the TOS Enterprise and the latter series "Enterprise" there has not been any real mention of Commuications or having a dedicated communications station.

Grandeur does have one, since we are a tactical crusier always going in and out of dangerous situations we need special communications and two dedicated Comms stations, one is more for intership commications the other is for major subspace commuications.

When I say major I mean major. We are equipped with all of the latest up to date communication and listening/evesdropping systems there are.

Our Chief of Communications is muti-lingual in various langauges (story wise) (Like Hoshi was on Enterprise) and thus if our enimies are luking around the galaxy and especially commuicating we should be able to receive them and he can translate what is going on.

Before you say it, yes we do have all of the latest electronics translaters but his skills goes into certain special dielects and so on.

Of couse it is not only about the langauges either Commuications helps us determind where are enimies are located, sort of a connect the dots senerio and when we get that information it gets relayed back to the tac-comm (Tactical and Commications Table).
There between commuications knowing pretty much where things are and Tactical outlining the best defense and or offense stratiges, we can come up with a game plan if you will to do our thing and get out.

Next to actual Commuication ships like the USS Marconi and USS Morse we can handle about any size commuications and on occasions haved been a relay from other ships and headquarters.

Communications on Grandeur is vital to our misisons and the Comms stations are just as important if not more so then the other stations like Ops and Science and so on.
I have ask Daniel to come up with more info for Communications and to post on here about it
So be looking for more good things coming out of Communications as we proceed further on.
Captain Roop

Re: Communications

Well, here is an idea that I'll throw out...

For our timeline that Grandeur is set in, yes there is plenty of technology we have at our disposal we can use. Yet as a tactical cruiser, we do have a more specific mission. The Communications Chief (at least story wise) would be like sonar/radar on a real time submarine serving under water as well as receiving hails and such. We're not just talking about deciphering other languages, but a special ability to also understand sounds and noise in space that we are in and around. That makes the position more useful, and has some valor as a very important member of the crew (story wise still). If we're going to have one (and I am glad Dan is back), may as well make it an important and necessary position for our ship, and do it in a way that we need the officer there. He may be the Communications Officer, but the job needs to entail more than that. Hope the extra was a good idea. emoticon

Hello All!

I'll get to the story side of Grandeur's communications on my next post. Here I would like to talk about my post as Chief of Communications for the Grandeur Starfleet club and also ask for your input.

One of the main areas covered in communications is the newsletter. I have been getting some good articles to put into the revised newsletter and I want to thank you all for that. I am looking at getting the newsletter out by August/September. I have hit one minor snag on the newsletter, I am using my wife's PC to try to put it together but just short of some major upgrades it won't do (handle) what I need it to do. By the looks of things I will be able to pick up one of the old G4 Macintosh Towers in early to mid August. It may be an older model (2 generations old [G4 to G5 to Intel processor] ) but it will handle the software I need to run for the newsletter (and some other surprises I have in mind) just fine. emoticon

I like your communication ideas Lane!

I know that we have different people writing out the technical aspects of Grandeur (well writing and graphics) but has anyone picked up on working out the communications side of Grandeur? I don't know graphics like all of you do (I can do a mean stick figure) but I do know technical writing (especially when it comes to communications).

Keep those articles coming in to ab8si@yahoo.com for the newsletter!

Thank you!

Yes very good thoughts Lane thank you for the suggestion.

And Daniel, thank you for the Newsletter update, we was beginning to wonder what the status was. Besides anything related to communications being posted up here please keep us abreast of the newsletter progress at least every couple of weeks until everything comes into place.

Things are moving along at a nice pace so far keep up the good work.
