Horror Movies

I know it's bit early, but I decided to list some scary horror movies. I'll be dividing them into how big you are into horror movies to decide what you should get.

If you're a newbie I reccomend checking out some of these classics. They aren't all scary, but they're required before anything on this list.

  Halloween
  Nightmare on Elm Street
Any of the Friday the 13th's
  Scream
  Jaws

Alright from here on out any movie I mention will be the original version, not the remakes. Remakes are an insult to movies and should be banned to hell for all eternity. These are for the moderate fans of horror movies.

  Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
  Army of Darkness
  Phantasm
  Hellraiser
  Candy Man
  Night of the Living Dead
  People under the Stairs
  Pumpkin Head

Alright, now the movies on this part of the list are for the Hard Core horror movie fans. These movies can only be enjoyed by the truest of fans. Otherwise you're wasting time and money. Also some of these are low budget gore and tit fests. So be warned.

  Slumber Party Massacre
  Near Dark
  The Thing
  Last House on the Left
  Alien or Aliens
  The Dentist
  Dawn of the Dead
  Re-Animator
  Dead Alive
Bad Taste (good luck finding it)

Now I have a movie that I think everyone should see. Some of you will think it's boring. Other's will see it as one of the most intense ans truly scary movies out there. You must watch it later at night in the dark to get the full effect.

Session 9- A haz-mat cleanup team gets a job to clean an old mental asylum. Weird things start to happen in the place that don't seem to have any cause. This movie is great because it doesn't rely on typical movie stereotypes to get scares. It's really special.

As Halloween draws closer I'll update this list.

Oh and unless you are truly hard core. Stay the hell away from Japanese and Italian horror movies. I **** you not when I say these movies are so disturbing that some people have been arrested for having them. The FBI thought they were explotation films. Charlie Sheen was among those who got in trouble.

Re: Horror Movies

Ok, great list, except Nightmare on Elm Street movies scare me to death. But 'Alien' as a horror movie? meh.

And what is with the 'Army of Darkness' movie.
Thats such a great movie. Hilarious, not scary though.hehehe.

Ash: See this? This is my BOOMSTICK!

Ash: Good...bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

Ash: Lady, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to ask you to leave the store.
Possessed woman: Who the hell are you?
Ash: Name's Ash.[c o c k s shotgun] Housewares.

ROFL....I would rate that number 1 on the list. emoticon

Some movies I would add to your list:

'Mouth of Madness'
This movie is scary- not the "things-jump-at-the-screen-real-fast" kind of scary. It's compared to Stephen King and H.P Lovecraft.

'Necromiacon'
I cant spell it right, but its the book of the dead, of course. Its based directly off of H.P LoveCraft. Its a bunch of violent short stories.

Oh yeah, if you are going to rent the old version of movies like 'NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD' just check the remake DVD...They usually put them on there.

Re: Horror Movies

Nice to meet another Evil Dead fan. Okay Army of Darkness is pure comedy (and a damn good one at that), but Evil Dead 2 still had some frighting moments.

Although I never enjoyed it, a lot of people liked Alien so I put it on there.

What do you mean by that. I've never seen the remake and original on the same disk (plus the remakes of both Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Living Dead are insulting to the originals).

And I still can't reccomend Session 9 enough. Not everybody can appreciate it but for those who do, it's an intense experience.

And since you started it, how bout some Evil Dead 2 quotes.

"I'll swallow your soul! I'll swallow your soul!"
  Puts shotgun to demons head
  "Swallow this"
  BOOM!

After cutting off his possesed hand, he looks at it and mutters the immortal lines..
  "That's right, who's laughing now!"

  "Groovy"

  Looking at self in mirror...
"Ok, get a grip of yourself, you're ok"
Reflection jumps out and grabs him.
"We chopped up our girlfriend with a chainsaw, we are not ok."

What is Evil Dead 2?

I see, yet I wonder blind and lost. I hear, yet I am deaf to myself. I love, yet I am tired of it, because its a creul and harsh mistress that has struck me down one too many times.

Re: Horror Movies

  Wow. Where do I begin.

Evil Dead 2 is the sequel to director Sam Rami's (the guy who did the Spider Man movies) first movie Evil Dead. The original was an extrememly low budget decent horror movie. Well, he decided to do something different for Evil Dead 2. This time he made a horror movie with a bit of comedy in it. He also made the hero a badass of extreme porportions and added tons of blood and gore.

What did he get? One of the coolest horror flicks ever. Sure it's pretty corny, but still very good.

On a side note. In Duke Nukem 3D, Duke had some pretty popular lines. Well, pretty much every single line that was really popular came from either Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness.

So Shantu, check these movies out immediatly.

  Oh and Draugwyn, It's "Necronomican".

Ah yes, Silence of the Lambs. I'll include it for the same reason I included Alien. Personally, I never got into it.

Pumpkinhead? Seriously? The one where the kids run over that little boy on their dirt bikes? Ok, I guess.
