Breast feeding in public?
It was in the news recently that a woman chose to breast feed in the middle of our local mall, and as its against there policy to let women breast feed out in the open, they asked her to leave.
Whats your view on this?
Whilst I understand babies need to be fed and its perfectly natural, this woman was sitting in the middle of the food section whilst people around her were eating!!
Could it not be kept to a private room or something?!

Re: Breast feeding in public?
I disagree - breastfeeding is the most natural way to feed a baby. Why shouldn't the baby eat where everyone else is eating?
Mind you, it depends how it's done - some people just hoik everything out, leaving nothing to the imagination, whereas others can feed so discreetly that few people are even aware that breastfeeding is going on.
I wish breastfeeding in public was more acceptable - more people might actually opt to breastfeed then.

Re: Breast feeding in public?
My wife doesn't even like to brest feed if our parents are visiting.
We just bottle feed him stuff that has been pumped.
Breast feed babies have an average of 10 IQ points then non brest feed babies.
10 points if the difference between a college grad and a high school grad.
I think in WY it is legal to be naked as long as your not trying to sexually arouse anyone.
One of the first brest I ever saw was a gal brestfeeding at the back of the Church. I just happened to look back at the right time. THe gal was actually being fairly descreete. I"ll bet most there did not notice.

Re: Breast feeding in public?
I breastfed all of my three and had no qualms about feeding them in public. It is possible to feed in public without anyone realising you're doing it... I know I've been there done that
I only ever had one person come up to me (a really creepy guy as it happens) who told me I was being disgusting and that I should feed the little one in the toilet. I simply asked him if he would like to eat his meal in the loo (where all provided feeding rooms I've ever known are situated) and when he said no it was unhygenic I replied that his immune system was more far more developed than my babies was so it was safer for him to eat there than my child. He still said I was disgusting and I just said he was the disgusting one for seeing my breasts as a purely sexual object for male gratification rather than the purpose they were evolved for. He eventually went away with his tail between his legs and I was greeted with nods and smiles of approval from most of the people around me.
With careful choice of clothing no-one can see anything anyway. I actually had people come over to coo at the tiny baby I was feeding and then apologise for interupting when they got close enough to see exactly why the baby was nestled so comfortably in my arms.
I'm an avid supporter of breastfeeding and just wish it was more socially acceptable.

Re: Breast feeding in public?
Well said, Karen I just wish breastfeeding was more socially acceptable in this country. Having said that, like you say, if you are discreet, then few people mind. I fed my two in many places and never had any problems. I've even breastfed in church (in the middle of a long sermon) and no-one batted an eyelid.
