Greek Meatballs
3/4lbs skinless ground turkey
1 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 large egg
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
3 tablespoons parsley
1 tablespoon mint
2 teaspoons oregano
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon olive oil
28oz (2 regular cans) whole peeled chopped tomatoes
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1/4 teaspoon salt
pasta to go with the meatballs
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
For the meatballs;
Combine turkey, 1/2 cup of the onion, bread crumbs, half the minced garlic, egg, parmesan,
parsley, mint, 1 teaspoon of the oregano, and 1/4 teaspoon of the cinnamon in a mixing bowl
and mix well. Form into about a dozen meatballs. Place them on a baking sheet, and bake for
2o minutes.
Meanwhile, heat a large saucepan over medium high heat. Swirl in the oil, then add the
remaining 1/2 cup of onion, minced garlic and 1 teaspoon oregano. Cook until onion softens,
about 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, and the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of
cinnamon, bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15
minutes. Add the meatballs and simmer for a further 15 minutes.
