Re: German for beginners
Very good!

quote: Ich bin echt froh dass du mir mit Franzoesisch hilfst!
I am genuinely (?) glad that you are helping me with french.
You could say "really", echt is a very informal word.
quote:
How was that?
That was great! We can keep doing that if you want

Re: German for beginners
Hello again
Here are some sentences for Alex again...They involve past, conditional and future:
I studied German for 4 years.
It would be nice to go to Germany again.
I will go to France soon.
Beth? Any progress on the translations?

Re: German for beginners
Hi Alex
If you want to do it online, LEO dictionary is a great resource, you get all the german grammar that you need too. Try it out:
http://dict.leo.org/?lang=de
When you look up a word, there are usually three buttons on the right that explain grammar, give you an audio example of the pronunciation and thesaurus, I think. It is worth having a look, especially for the verb forms.
OK, now to the lesson Let's do the future first...
werden to become, will, shall,...
ich werde
du wirst
er, sie, es wird
wir werden
ihr werdet
sie werden
Sie werden
I will go to France soon - Ich werde bald nach Frankreich reisen.
Some more sentences for you:
He will visit me tomorrow.
We will have a barbecue next week.
Will you go to cinema on Sunday?

Re: German for beginners
Er wird mich Morgen besuchen
Wir werden folgende Woche ein Barbecue (zu)haben
Werden Sie zum Kino Sonntag gehen
(I chucked zu in above to make the sentance flow better - I think you can do this?)
From my memory so probably wrong

Re: German for beginners
Hello
Just having a break as my computer is crunching numbers... so I checked my e-mail and found some post notifications
Well done John I'll add a few corrections though
*Er wird mich morgen besuchen.*
"morgen" is written in lowercase when used as 'tomorrow' and with a capital 'M' when used as 'the morning' = der Morgen
Wir werden die naechste Woche eine Grillparty haben.
"folgende Woche" sounds good but literally means "following week" and not "next week"
'zu' doesn't fit in this case (sorry )
Werden Sie zum Kino am Sonntag gehen?
(also:
Gehen Sie zum Kino am Sonntag?)
When talking about doing something on a particular day, always use 'am' : am Montag - on Monday, am Dienstag - on Tuesday, etc.
Hope that clarified things a bit
I'm happy to see someone dug out this thread again
