Helpful Tips
A little bit about getting things working the way you want them.
Your world here is managed from the Control Panel. You'll see a link for it at the top of every page. A very complete FAQ document that outlines everything you might want to do with your settings (or at least everything you can do) can be found here. I encourage you to check it out, particularly before you post a question that will turn out to have an obvious answer.
In the meantime, though, here are just a few of the things you might want to know right away.
The ****ing profanity filter.
Do you see a bad word in the heading above? If not, your profanity filter is turned on. If this seems just ducky, then you can skip to the next tip. If you are feeling cheated out of some good cussin', however, you can go to your Control Panel (see, I told ya), click on the "Change miscellaneous options" button, and look for "Override board profanity filter." Change this setting you your preference. (Mine is always ****ing off.)
Annoying Emails
If you are receiving an email whenever there is activity in a thread to which you have posted and want it to stop, there are two ways to go about it.
First, you can simply uncheck the box next to "Get notifications when someone replies?" each time you post (you'll find that right below the "Submit" button) and leave it checked when you want notification. If you find that you want not to be notified far more often than to be notified, go back to your miscellaneous options and uncheck the box next to "Pre-check the Notification box."
You will now be free of annoying emails unless you specifically request them. You can also click the "subscribe to topic" link at the top of the page to turn notification on at any time, with or without having posted to the thread.
There will be an "unsubscribe" link in each annoying email that will allow you to opt back out if you change your mind.
Crappy ChatAt the top left of every page, you will see this link. It will take you to a little java chat interface. Feel free to check it out, just click it. No one really seems to go there anymore, but who knows, you might start something.
That's all for now. I may add more later if it seems necessary, but the FAQ that I linked above does a great job of clueing you in, so take a look at it after you get the initial running around out of your system. ;-)
