rated PG for murder
Summary and AN: SEQUEL TO TIPS. MUST READ TIPS FIRST.
"Aren't you coming?" I ask. Most of the other GS agents are jealous of me and I know it. I have the best trainee. He's smart, loyal, and most of all, under control. My last trainee Mr. Eckhart gave me tried to attack me while we were guarding the Genomex building one night. If it weren't for his sub dermal governor, I would be dead.
Simon March walks out behind me. He is a feral-ursa, a ferel with bear qualitles. He passes me and stops at a black Lincoln. March openes the passenger side door for me with his odd shaped hands, flat and round, like a paw, with long thick nails. Usually I hate it when he opens the door for me, I mean we're going to get a New Mutant, not the prom. But today is different. We're both too excited to remember the standard self-sufficient GSA attitude. Mr. Eckhart just gave us a new assignment: capture a New Mutant. Brennan Mulwray.
"One of Adam's people," he said with disgust while we stood in his office, barely able to keep our emotionless façade on.
We follow the dot of a GS agent following him on our GPS map. They're in a parking garage. Simon drives us up the ramps until we get to the top where a black motorcycle is parked. We've been told Mulwray's tough to beat, so we're going for the element of surprise.
"How long?" March asks me.
"Less than a minute," I respond, watching the dot on my map get closer by the second. "Remember the plan?"
"You keep him distracted. Leave the rest to me," he said with a hatred I've never heard from him. I'm impressed.
"Don't kill him. If you do, we go straight into stasis," I reminded him.
He didn't answer. He's staring out the window towards a man dressed in black.
"Mulwray," Simon whispers, almost like he's in awe. But there's no missing the underlying anger.
Simon's never met Mulwray. He has no reason to hate him this much. Causiously, I ask, "Is there anything else I should know?"
"I've been waiting for this for two years," he says. A small chill runs down my spine. He's going to kill him which means we're going into stasis.
Maybe I can talk him out of this. "What are you going to do to him, March?" I ask.
"Don't worry. He'll only get what he deserves."
"What did he do?" I ask. I'm not sure I want to know.
Flatly and quietly he answers. "He killed my sister."
I don't have a sister. I don't know how he feels. I don't know how to stop him from killing our assignment. Before I can do anything, he's out the door.
I'm out a few seconds later. Simon's running full force towards Mulwray, who's just watching. Mr. Eckhart might not have a problem with trainee's who join the GSA for personal revenge, but I do. Especially when they're about to get me into stasis, even killed.
I'm not going to die.
Mulwray's not going to die.
Simon March is going to die.
He's almost there with his paws out ready to attack like a giant bear. I grab my gun from my belt and aim. I shoot three bullets. He falls face forwards, arms flailing. He touches Mulwray, I think. I don't care.
Mulwray sees me walking back to the car. He shoots some electricity at it and it explodes. I see his face on last time, dirty and blackened from the flames. No anger, he just wants an explanation before I leave.
I wish I could give him one.
He joined the GSA to get to Mulwray. I could have lived with that, but not what he almost did. My prize trainee. He sure turned out great.
Won't the other agents be jealous.
Brennan Mulwray inspected the cut he had just gotten. It looked about a ½ foot long, about an inch deep, stung like hell. He looked down at the man who had just rushed him. Suit, earpiece, paws, he was definitely a GS agent.
Let the man who's been following me take care of him, he thought as he walked, holding his side, to his bike. He left the parking garage, the mall, and the city, and got on the highway. Past the towns, past the noise, past New Mutants and the GSA.
People tried to kill him on the street, in malls, theatres, parks, and in his own home. And if they didn't want to kill him, they wanted him for research.
He needed to be somewhere safe, somewhere annonomous, somewhere where there wasn't a gun under the counter. He got to a small town, more like a rest stop, and pulled into a diner parking lot. Four people were in there: a cook, a pretty waitress, and two guys in the corner booth.
Emma was expecting him to call soon. Shalimar wanted to spar with him. Jesse needed help with a computer server. Adam would want to do a complete physical as soon as he got home.
They would have to wait.
