Stupid Ideas
Stupid Ideas

Summary: Someone's pregnant!...
"Did you ever think this was just a very very stupid idea?" Emma shouted. Brennan didn't feel guilty and never would, no matter how much Emma yelled at him. But he hung his head out of respect. It was better that she think she was getting through so it was end sooner.
"Lay off, Emma," Shalimar said sweetly, gently grabbing her shoulders and pulling her back. "I'm sure Brennan didn't think that it would turn out like this."
"A meeting alone with two GS Agents. There's only one was it could end!" she shouted.
"Yeah, what were you thinking?" Jesse asked.
"I fought them a few months ago and they came up to me wanting to talk yesterday. They said they wanted out. What was I supposed to do? Turn them down?" he asked.
"You were supposed to call one of us! And you definitely weren't supposed to take them to a safehouse," Emma shouted.
Brennan walked out of the kitchen and went through the halls until he got to him room. He could still hear Emma and Shalimar talking, but neither one was following him.
"Brennan?" Adam asked, through his ring. "I need you to go to Safehouse 3 and restock."
"Can't someone else go?" Brennan asked. "I just got back."
"So did they, rescuing you, remember?"
Brennan sighed angrily and walked out of his room, slamming the door. He couldn't catch a break with Adam or Emma. She constantly seemed to be on his case about something and when there wasn't something, it seemed like she invented it. Shalimar and Jesse didn't want to get involved.
He paused before he went past the kitchen.
"I know, Emma, but in a few days, you'll be back to your regular self," Shalimar said, trying to console her.
"I don't think it's just that. It's something else," Emma told her.
"We can go see Adam…"
"No, I'll go later if I still feel like crap."
Brennan ran past the kitchen. He knew Shalimar noticed, but Emma sounded like she had been crying and probably didn’t.
Emma walked out into the gardens, trying to sniff back her tears. Shalimar got up to follow her, but Jesse got to the door first, winning the right to talk to her and find out what was really wrong.
"What's going on, Em?" he asked, sitting down next to her on the bench.
"I don't think it's just my sister this time," she said, looking down at her hands. "I know that's what Adam and Shalimar think because she died three years yesterday, but I think there's something really wrong."
"Is it Brennan?" Jesse asked.
"I don't cry over Brennan," she said. "He might have been stupid, meeting with those agents and getting caught, but it wasn't like it was against me." Emma started to cry harder. "I can't believe I was so hard on him."
"I'm sure he'll forgive you," Jesse said, trying to make her feel better. He put his arm around her. "So what is it?"
"Remember when we…" Emma said, trailing off. She didn't have to finish her sentence. Jesse knew what she was talking about. "I think there was a side effect."
"I'm sure Adam can cure it," he said.
"I don't mean an STD," Emma said frustrated. "I mean I'm pregnant."
Jesse let go of her and ran his fingers through his hair. "Emma," he sighed.
"I haven't wanted to go see Adam because if he finds out he'll make me tell everyone," she said.
"Well everyone's going to find out anyways, right?" he asked. She didn't answer. "You're not going to have an abortion, are you?"
"No," she said quickly. "I could never. I was talking about me leaving Mutant X. I mean, it's not like I'll be able to fight anymore, right?"
"Maybe a year ago you could have left, but we're all a family now. It doesn't matter if you can fight the GSA. And if you leave, I'll leave. In a few months…" He trailed off, not wanting to think about it.
"You'll be a dad," she finished for him. Jesse let it sink in. A baby with Emma. A dad. In a few months their lives would change forever, no matter where they were living.
"I don't really want to think about it," she said, getting up. "I haven't told anyone and you can't either. Not until I do."
Jesse nodded. He didn't think he could tell anyone if he wanted to. He was having a hard time even thinking about it.
Emma went to her room and lied down. The only thought in her mind was Jesse. She loved him, or at least she thought she did. He looked so scared, getting the news. It wasn't fair to him. It was her problem. Jesse didn't need to have a baby to help take care of.
She got back up and started to pack. She couldn't let herself mess up the life of the man she loved. There wasn't much to bring. All her shirts and pant's were tight-fitting. In a few weeks, they wouldn't fit her anymore. She picked up a pair of pants she used to meditate in. They were made up of enough spandex to last for a few months. She put in her pajamas and her one T-Shirt. Emma threw in all her toiletries and zipped up the bag. "At least I don't have to worry about my period," she said quietly.
Emma picked up her bag and walked into the main room of the Sanctuary. She took in a deep breath. "Bye," she whispered, before turning around and leaving.
Brennan walked through the hall of the Sanctuary after coming back from the safe house. Curious to find out how Emma was, he stopped inside Jesse's room. He sat on the bed, crying.
"What are you doing?" Brennan asked, walking in.
"I don't know," he said, trying to keep Brennan from seeing his face.
"You're crying," he said. "Why?"
"I can't tell you," Jesse said. "I will when I can, but, basically, she told me what's really going on with her."
"It's that bad?" Brennan asked.
"Depends on your point of view," Jesse said. "It's probably one of the worst things that could happen to us right now."
"Us?" Brennan asked. "As in Mutant X or you and Emma."
"Me and Emma," he answered.
Brennan thought for a second. "Are you two together?"
"I don't know," he said. "You would have to ask her, if she would even talk to you."
"So what did you guys do?" he asked.
"Told you. I can't tell," Jesse said.
"You guys didn't," Brennan said, trailing off. Jesse stayed silent. Brennan started laughing. "You got Emma?" he asked, impressed. "So it's one of the worst things that could happen to you and Emma…" Brennan stood up from the bed. "She's pregnant?"
Jesse didn't answer again, confirming it.
"What are you guys going to do?" he asked, finally caring about his friends and not trying to satisfy his curiosity.
"She's not having an abortion," Jesse said.
"Good," Brennan said. "It'll be fun having a kid around."
"If she stays," Jesse muttered.
"What?" Brennan asked, shocked.
"She wants to leave," Jesse repeated, louder.
"No she's not," Brennan said, running out. Jesse ran after him. He followed him to Emma's room. "Great," he said, catching his breath. "She's gone."
"Let's go after her," Jesse said. "Actually, she won't want to see you."
"You either," Brennan said. "I wouldn't want to see you if I were her."

Re: Stupid Ideas
On cue, Shalimar walked in. "What's going on, guys?" she asked.
Jesse rushed over to her. "We can't tell you what's going on, but you need to bring Emma back."
"Is she in danger?" Shalimar asked.
"I can't explain it," Jesse said, "but you have to find her."
"Okay," she said, walking out. Normally she would only take orders like that from Adam, but Jesse looked scared and had been crying. Besides, it wouldn't be too hard to find her.
Shalimar sat down at the helm of one of their planes. It was less equipped than the Helix because it was used just to get to the mainland. She pushed a few buttons and a list was projected into the air by the computers. It said each of their names. She selected Emma and waited for a map to come up with a little black dot where she was. It did and Shalimar sighed with relief. She hadn't thought to take her ring off, so finding her would be a piece of cake.
She flew the Helix towards the blinking light. She stopped and set it down at a safehouse of theirs. Shalimar opened the door and walked in. Emma sat in a chair in the corner.
"Running away?" Shalimar asked.
"How did you find me?"
"You're ring," she answered.
Emma started to laugh. "I am so stupid!" she shouted, throwing her ring on the ground. It rolled into a vent.
Shalimar looked at her friend. She looked scared and frustrated. "What's wrong?" Shalimar asked, walking over and sitting on the arm of the chair.
Emma looked up and started crying. "I have to do what's right and Jesse, I can't do it to him…" she whispered, tears slipping down her face.
"Do what?" she asked.
"I told him a few hours ago," Emma said.
"Told him what?"
Emma stopped crying. "I'm pregnant."
Shalimar almost fell off of the chair. "Who did it?" she asked.
"Jesse," she whispered. She started to cry again.
Shalimar sat back down and gently held her. After what seemed like hours, Emma stopped crying. "How am I supposed to raise a child?" she whispered. "A child… my life is too dangerous. I can't do it. Jesse can't do it. I have to leave."
"No you don't," Shalimar said. "You might not be able to fight but you're still part of the family. It doesn't matter if you never kick another agent's ass. You'll always be part of Mutant X."
"Really?" Emma said, smiling like a gigantic weight had been lifted off her.
"Really," she confirmed. They stood up and started walking out. "Don't worry about anything. Think about how happy Adam will be when he finds out, which I'll help you with. He'll be like a grandpa."
Suddenly, Jesse and Brennan ran in. "Where have you been?" Brennan asked them both.
Shalimar flirtatiously ran her fingers over his chest as she walked out. "We're going home. You guys find her ring."
Emma smiled, glad that Shalimar was handling it all. She passed by Jesse. He caught her hand.
"I love you," he whispered so the others wouldn't hear.
"I love you too," she whispered back. He kissed her hand lightly before running down the stairs after Brennan.
Emma sighed. Her ring was in one of the air ducts and she knew Shalimar wouldn't let them come back to the Sanctuary without it.
At least there would be peace and quiet for a few days.
