Way Overdue
I have been meaning to join this forum for sometime as UKSteve was kind enough to register with my own website www.oilyblog.co.uk
Not sure what has promted me to do it now other than the fact that I am seriously looking at buying a Mini having explored every other possibility for a hobby car. I have a challenge event planned next year to tour various parts of the UK with something as near to classic as possible using only 'B' roads to raise money for charity. After looking at numerous Mini's I think that I have decided to go a little newer as I have been offered a restored 1992 Cooper. It's the 1.3i model and I wondered what peoples views were on this engine?
I have owned a 1979 - 850, a 1979 - 1,000 and a 1978 - 1275 GT and all these were fine and straight forward to work on. Not really planning to do too much to it other than tuning and stripping it out so that I can rally spec it.
Thoughts please!
I am really keen to support you guys in what you are doing and if I have a car ready for next year would be happy to support you at events etc.
I have been a Christian for more years than I care to remember and feel that cars provide an ideal means by which to share our faith. Having picked up a copy of Mini World it appears from the number of events being run that there is lots to get involved in.
Also having just used the Hope 08 Bus for outreach I can see how important a Mini could be as a talking point. Incidentally if you would like to use the Hope Bus for anything next year let me know as I am quite heavily involved with it. Further details can be found by looking on the forum at www.oilyblog.co.uk
Anyway really hope to be involved in this forum and look forward to hearing from anybody that reads this message.
Just purchased my first Mini World magazine

Re: Way Overdue
Hey, glad you finally made it!
You can probably tell, its a little quieter here than round your place... Partly my fault, I know, but I think the old Mini crew are a bit shy.
No bias here but next year will be a good time to own a Mini... 50th anniversary and all that, there's going to be plenty going on. So, yeah, if we can shake the rest of them into taking part, it will be a good time for the Christian MOC to come back out the woodwork.
My 'toy' Mini is a 1.3i, and I think it's a lot of fun, plenty of nippiness around town, although it runs out of puff quite easily at speed. Not as easy to work on as they used to be either, with all the ignition and other modern stuff crammed in wherever they found a gap!
I think Minis are especially good for outreach, because everyone knows someone who owns one. At least, all my friends do.
Keep us informed - I look forward to welcoming you to the Mini family. (I still think 90s Coopers are waaaay too common, but that's just me.)

Re: Way Overdue
Thanks for the welcome. Will keep you posted with my plans. Should get my Cooper next week. Agree that they are way too common, but at least I am back in the family!
Looking to publicise the 'B' Road Challenge and wondered what the best Mini events are the ones to be at next year?
Please do keep visiting Oily Blog as it looks like Christian Vision for Men are going to help publicise it and the more postings we have the better.
